John 16:23-28

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name. Until now you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. "I have said this to you in figures; the hour is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures but tell you plainly of the Father. In that day you will ask in my name; and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from the Father. I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father."

REFLECTION

On this Saturday of the Sixth Week of Easter, we reflect on the growth and guidance of the early Church. In Acts, (Acts 18:23-28 )Apollos is instructed more perfectly by Priscilla and Aquila, showing the importance of guidance, learning, and the community in faithfully proclaiming Christ.

Psalm 47 calls all peoples to rejoice and acknowledge God as king over the nations, celebrating His mighty power and reign.

In the GOSPEL, Jesus promises that prayer in His name brings fullness of joy and reveals the love of the Father. He assures His disciples that though He will leave the world, He comes from the Father and returns to Him, emphasizing the intimate connection between God and those who believe.
These readings encourage us to deepen our knowledge of God, trust in His promises, and live in the joy that comes from abiding in Christ and His word.

"Go and make disciples of all nations, says the Lord; I am with you always, to the close
of the age."

REFLECTION 🙌

Today’s readings celebrate the Ascension of Christ and the mission entrusted to His Church. In Acts, (Acts 1:1-11) Jesus commissions the apostles to wait for the Holy Spirit and to be His witnesses “to the ends of the earth.” Though He ascends to heaven, He promises His abiding presence and ultimate return.

The psalm (psalm 47) exults in God’s kingship, inviting all peoples to rejoice and recognize the Lord’s reign over all creation. Our worship acknowledges His authority and glory.

Paul reminds us that Christ is seated at God’s right hand, far above all powers and dominions, and that the Church is His body, filled with His presence. Through the Spirit, believers are given wisdom and understanding to grasp the hope and inheritance promised in Christ.
