Happy Father's Day

Genesis 17:5 says that God renamed a man and called him "father of many nations" not because that man was strong enough to earn it, but because God simply chose to multiply him.

For 45 years and above in ministry, that is the only way I can explain my own life. I did not set out to father many. God kept placing them in my path, orphans with nowhere to lay their heads, young men who would become pastors, strangers on hospital beds and on buses who just needed one true word before the day ended. None of that was my doing. Psalm 68:5 calls God a father to the fatherless. I have simply tried to be His hands.

If I have ever seemed tough, it was never because I lacked love it was because I refused to let love be soft where a son or daughter needed it to be strong. Scripture says in 1 Corinthians 4:15 that a true spiritual father is not just a teacher but one who carries his children in his very heart. That is all I have ever tried to do.

So today, every bit of honor belongs to God, who chose to multiply an ordinary man into many sons and daughters.

Happy Father's Day to every father walking this same road may God keep multiplying you for His glory.
