𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬 (𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐩) -
𝐆𝐨𝐝'𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬

The Church recognizes three Archangels by name in Scripture and Tradition, each with a distinct mission.

1. 𝑺𝒕. 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒍 [𝑾𝒉𝒐 𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑮𝒐𝒅?]
The defender and warrior. He is the leader of the heavenly army who cast Satan out of heaven (Rev 12:7-9). He is our protector in spiritual battle and patron of the Church.

2. 𝑺𝒕. 𝑮𝒂𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒍 [𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒕𝒉 𝒐𝒇 𝑮𝒐𝒅]
The messenger. He announced the Incarnation to Mary at the Annunciation (Lk 1:26-38) and the birth of John the Baptist. He brings God's plan and helps us say "yes" to God's will.

𝟑. 𝐒𝐭. 𝐑𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 [𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬]
The healer and guide. He appears in the Book of Tobit as the companion who heals blindness and guides Tobiah on his journey. He is the patron of healing, travelers, and joyful encounters.

𝐓𝐡𝐲 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞 : 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

To pray “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done” is to live the Principle and Foundation: we are created to praise, reverence and serve God, and to seek our sanctification which is His will for us (1 Thess 4:3). As Blessed Fulton Sheen showed, we enter Heaven not by accident but by seeking God's will daily. What is God's will for your life today?

Lumen Gentium reminds us that holiness is not for the few but that it is the universal call; a call to do God's will on earth as it is in Heaven. “Each saint is a mission,” says Gaudete et Exsultate #19, and Sheen’s mission was to reflect Christ in his own moment in history. The question for us is the same: if Heaven is our destination, are we today choosing only what leads us closer to God?

𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐰, 𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞, 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭

St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist, was born in Galilee and worked as a tax collector for the Roman Empire. Known also as Levi, he lived a life many Jews despised, since tax collectors were often associated with corruption and collaboration with oppressors. Yet, when Jesus passed by and called him, “Follow me,” Matthew immediately left his booth and livelihood behind. His response was total and immediate, showing the power of God’s call.

Matthew later became one of the twelve apostles, witnessing Jesus’ ministry firsthand. After the Resurrection and Pentecost, he dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel. Tradition holds that he traveled far to spread the faith, possibly to Ethiopia or Persia, courageously proclaiming Christ in foreign lands. He is also credited as the author of the Gospel according to Matthew, written to demonstrate how Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah. His Gospel emphasizes Jesus as teacher and King, offering practical instructions for Christian living.

Let us Pray

St. Matthew, who left your table to follow Christ, pray that we too may hear and answer His call without delay. Through your faithful spreading of the Gospel, help us to know and share the Good News with courage and love. Amen.

Today we honor the holy cross of Jesus, an instrument of humanity's salvation, an ancient symbol of brutal ex*****on transformed into a triumphant sign of God's profound love and victory over death.

May we gaze upon the wood of the cross today with deep gratitude, praying that the ultimate sacrifice of Christ continues to lift our hearts and guide our steps toward eternal life.
