UCZ Sunday School Teachers Called to Transform the Next Generation

The United Church of Zambia (UCZ) is currently hosting its 2026 Sunday School Teachers National Conference at Hillcrest Technical Secondary School, bringing together educators and ministry leaders from across the country. The conference is scheduled to conclude on 26th April 2026.

The gathering, held under the 2026 UCZ theme “Changing the Narrative,” seeks to equip Sunday school teachers with renewed vision and practical approaches to ministry in an evolving social and digital landscape.
During the official opening sermon, UCZ Synod Bishop Festus Chulu emphasized the critical role Sunday school teachers play in shaping future generations. “You are mentoring the next generation. We all start from somewhere. Be assured that your work is not in vain,” he said.
He further noted that narratives carry the power to inspire transformation, urging teachers to adopt positive and intentional approaches in their work. “Changing the narrative means changing the way we teach,” Bishop Chulu said, adding that today’s children are increasingly influenced by digital platforms that also seek to shape their thinking and values.

Meanwhile, the Bishop called on teachers not to overlook the children entrusted to them, but to embrace each one fully as part of their ministry. “This is real ministry,” he stressed, encouraging participants to remain committed to their calling and to recognize its significance.

And in a strong appeal, Bishop Chulu cautioned against complacency in ministry, noting that neglecting one’s calling often begins with “teaching without planning and serving without prayer.” He urged teachers to remain spiritually grounded and intentional in their preparation.

Man of the People

On Sunday, 5th April 2026, the Synod Bishop of the United Church of Zambia, Reverend Festus Chulu, graced the Easter Sunday service at Silverrest Congregation under the leadership of the Minister-in-Charge, Rev. Cynthia Kabanda, in the lusaka Presbytery.

True to his reputation as a Man of the People, Bishop Chulu shared a joyful and spirit-filled time with members of the congregation. His presence brought encouragement, unity, and renewed faith as the church celebrated the resurrection of our Lord.

During the visit, the Bishop took time to interact warmly with various fellowship groups within the church. He shared memorable moments and photos with the Women Christian Fellowship (WCF) and the Men’s Christian Fellowship (MCF), appreciating their commitment and service in strengthening the life of the church.

The joy of the day was also evident as he spent time with the Sunday School children and the Girls’ Brigade, celebrating the role of young people in the future of the church. Many other members and groups were equally delighted to meet and interact with their Bishop.

Bishop Chulu’s visit reflected his deep love for people and his dedication to shepherding the church with humility, warmth, and servant leadership. His engagement with members from all fellowships truly demonstrated that he is indeed a Bishop who walks with his people.

The Silverest Congregation was honored and blessed by his presence during this special Easter celebration.
