Acts 1:6–11
Jesus Is Taken Up Into Heave

1. Theophilus, I wrote about Jesus in my earlier book. I wrote about all he did and taught.
2. Until the day he was taken up to the heaven. Before Jesus left, he gave for orders to the apostles he had chosen. He did this through the Holy Spirit.
3. After his suffering and death, he appeared to them. In many ways he proved that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of 40 days. During that time he spoke about God's kingdom.
4. One day Jesus was eating with them. He gave them a command. "Do not leave Jerusalem," he said. "Wait for the gift my Father promised. You have heard me talk
about it.
5. John baptized with water. But in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
6. When the apostles met together, they asked Jesus a question. "Lord," they said, "are you going to give the kingdom back to Israel now?"
7. He said to them, "You should not be concerned about times or dates. The Father has set them by his own authority.
8. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you. Then you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem. You will be my witnesses in all Judea and Samaria. And you will be my witnesses from one end of the earth to the other."
9. After Jesus said this, he was taken up to heaven. They watched until a cloud hid him from their sight.
10. While he was going up, they kept on looking at the sky. Suddenly two men dressed in white clothing stood beside them.
11. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking at the sky? Jesus has been taken away from you into heaven. But he will come back in the same way you saw him go."

John 20:19–23
Jesus Appears to His Disciples

19. On the evening of that first day of the week, the disciples were together. They had locked the doors because hey were afraid of the Jews. Jesus came in and stood among them. He said, "May peace be with you!"
20. Then he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were very happy when they saw the Lord.
21. Again Jesus said, "May peace be with you! The Father has sent me. So now I am sending you."
22. He then breathed on them. He said, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
23. If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."

*Matthew 27:32–44*
*Jesus Is Nailed to a Cross*

32. On their way out of the city, they met a man from Cyrene. His name was Simon. They forced him to carry the cross.
33. They came to a place called Golgotha. The word Golgotha means The Place of the Skull.
34. There they mixed wine with bitter spices and gave it to Jesus to drink. After tasting it, he refused to drink it.
35. When they had nailed him to the cross, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
36. They sat down and kept watch over him there.
37. Above his head they placed the written charge against him. It read, this is jesus, the king of the jews.
38. Two robbers were crucified with nim. One was on his right and one was on his left.
39. Those who passed by shouted at Jesus and made fun of him. They shook their heads
40. and said, "So you are going to destroy the temple and build it again in three days? Then save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!"
41. In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders made fun of him.
42. "He saved others," they said. "But he can't save himself! He's the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross! Then we will believe in him.
43. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him. He's the one who said, 'I am the Son of God.' "
44. In the same way the robbers who were being crucified with Jesus also made fun of him.

Matthew 21:1–11
Jesus Enters Jerusalem

1. As they all approached Jerusalem, they came to Bethphage. It was on the Mount of
Olives. Jesus sent out two disciples.
2. He said to them, "Go to the village ahead of you. As soon as you get there, you will
find a donkey tied up. Her c**t will be with her. Untie them and bring them to me.
3. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them. The owner will send
them right away."
4. This took place so that what was spoken through the prophet would come true. It
says,
5. "Say to the city of Zion, 'See, your king comes to you. He is gentle and riding on a
donkey. He is riding on a donkey's c**t." (Zechariah 9:9)
6. The disciples went and did what Jesus told them to do.
7. They brought the donkey and the c**t. They placed their coats on them. Then Jesus
sat on the coats.
8. A very large crowd spread their coats on the road. Others cut branches from the
trees and spread them on the road.
9. Some of the people went ahead of him, and some followed. They all shouted,
"Hosanna to the Son of David!" "Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the
Lord!"
(Psalm 118:26) "Hosanna in the highest heaven!"
10. When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up. The people asked,
"Who is this?"
11. "The crowds answered, "This is Jesus. He is the prophet from Nazareth in
Galilee."

*The Cost Of The Following Jesus*

57. Once Jesus and those who were with him were walking along the road. A man said to Jesus, "I will follow you no matter where you go".
58. Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens. Birds have nests. But the son of Man has no place to lay his head."
59. He said to another man, "follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
60. Jesus said to him, ' Let dead people bury their own dead. You go and tell others about God's kingdom."
61. Still another person said, " I will follow you, Lord. But first lem go back and say goodbye to my family."
62. Jesus replied, "suppose someone starts to plow and then looks back. That person is not fit for service in God's kingdom.

*Jesus' Appearance Is Changed*

1. After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John the brother of James with him. He led them up a high mountain. They were all alone.
2. There in front of them his appearance was changed. His face shone like the sun. His clothes became as white as the light.
3. Just then Moses and Elijah appeared in front of them. Moses and Elijah were talking with Jesus.
4. Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters. One will be for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
5. While Peter was still speaking, a bright cloud surrounded them. A voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, and I love him. I am very pleased with him. Listen to him!"
6. When the disciples heard this, they were terrified. They fell with their faces to the ground.
7. But Jesus came and touched them "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid."
8. When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

Matthew 16:13–20
Peter Says That Jesus Is the Christ

13. Jesus went to the area of Caesare, Philippi. There he asked his disciples "Who do
people say the Son of Man is?"
14. They replied, "Some say John the Fotist. Others say Elijah. Still others Jeremiah,
or one of the prophets."
15."But what about you?" he asked.
Who do you say I am?"
16. Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ. You are the Son of the livng God."
17. Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah! No mere man showed this to
you. My Father in heaven showed it to you.
18. Here is what I tell you. You are Peter. On this rock I will build my Church. The
gates of hell will not be trong enough to destroy it.
19. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. What you lock on Earth will be
locked in heaven. What you unlock on earth will be unlocked heaven."
20. Then Jesus warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

Mark 5:25–34
A Suffering Woman

25. A woman was there who had a sickness that made her bleed. It ha lasted for 12 years.
26. She had suffered a great deal even though she had gone to many doctors. She had spent all the money she had. But she was getting worse not better.
27. Then she heard about Jesus. She came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clothes.
28. She thought, "I just need to touch his clothes. Then I will be healed."
29. Right away her bleeding stopped She felt in her body that her suffering was over.
30. At once Jesus knew that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd. He asked, "Who touched my clothes?"
31. "You see the people," his disciples answered. "They are crowding against you. And you still ask, 'Who touche me?' "
32. But Jesus kept looking around. He wanted to see who had touched him.
33. Then the woman came and fell at his feet. She knew what had happened to her. She was shaking with fear. But she told him the who truth.
34. He said to her, "Dear woman, our faith has healed you. Go peace. You are free from your suffering."

*Jesus Gives Blessings*

1. Jesus saw the crowds. So he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him.
2. Then he began to teach them. He said,
3. "Blessed are those who are spiritually needy. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
4. Blessed are those who are sad. They will be comforted.
5. Blessed are those who are free of pride. They will be given the earth.
6. Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for what is right. They will be filled.
7. Blessed are those who show mercy. They will be shown mercy.
8. Blessed are those whose hearts are pure. They will see God.
9. Blessed are those who make peace. They will be called sons of God.
10. Blessed are those who suffer for doing what is right. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
11. "Blessed are you when people make fun of you and hurt you because of me. You are also blessed when they tell all kinds of evil lies about you because of me.
12. Be joyful and glad. Your reward in heaven is great. In the same way, people hurt the prophets who lived long ago.
