๐ท๐๐๐ 1.
In His providence, God established the written word to preserve and spread the truth. It was His design that writing would also help to communicate His teachings from parents to children and on to the next generation ( Deuteronomy 6:6-9 ).
The Bible features more than 200 references regarding the written word and books. The very first one is found in Exodus 17:14: " Then the LORD said to Moses, ' Write this for a memorial in the book.." The second reference is found in Exodus 31:18 When the Lord " .... gave Moses two tablets of Testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God." Here, God himself is the writer, and the Ten commandments is the " message " recorded in a type of " hard paper" made of stones.
Many times, after revealing His will to the prophets, God would give them a mandate to write the message down in a book. This not only happened with Moses ( Exodus 17:14 ) but also with Jeremiah ( Jeremiah 30:2), Daniel ( Daniel 12:4 ) and John ( Revelation 1:11 ), While the prophets were supposed to record the messages, the people were advised to read and live by their teachings. The ones who read, hear, and keep the written messages are called blessed ( Revelation 1:3; 22:7).
The Bible also mentions many books that were not included in the cannon. A few examples are the books of Jasher ( Joshua 10: 13; 2 Samuel 1:18; 2 Timothy 3: 18), the Chronicals of Samuel, Nathan and Gad ( 1 Chronicles 29:29), a book written by Samuel ( 1 Samuel 10: 25), the record of Nathan ( 2 Chronicles 9:29), the treatise of the prophets Iddo ( 2 Chronicles 13:22) and many other. In addiction, there are many references of divine books such as the Bookof Life ( Daniel 12: 1) ; Philippians 4:3 ; Revelation 20 : 12 ; 22:19). The Book of Remembrance ( Malachi 3:16) and the books of human works ( Daniel 7: 10 ; Revelation 20:12; Psalms 56: 8 ).
These references and many other confirm the prominence of the written word and the purpose God always envisioned for it as a way to keep and spread His truth. From the beginning, when the Bible was given, throughout the Middle Ages and until today, God's teachings has been preserved and transmitted by means of writing and also by special agents who have been chosen to carry them. One example of that can be found with the Waldenses.
Be blessed.
