𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘀 𝗭𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗮 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁.

Meanwhile Several speeches were delivered at the launch. Among the speakers was the Guest of Honor, Northern Province Minister Hon. Leonard Mbao (MP), who emphasized that child protection is not just a social issue, but a matter of development, justice, and human rights.

He noted that we cannot effectively protect children without addressing household poverty, making the addition of the livelihoods component essential. He commended Caritas Zambia and its diocesan office, Caritas Kasama, for complementing government efforts in strengthening household resilience, economic independence, community systems, accountability, and service delivery.

The Minister pledged that the Government will provide leadership and coordination, working closely with traditional leaders, parents, civil society, and children. He concluded by stating that the LIGHTS Project is not a replacement for state responsibility, but a reinforcement of it.

"The official launch of the (𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒) (Livelihoods, Inclusion, Growth, Human rights protection and Transformation with Sisters) project is currently underway in Kasama, bringing together the Mungwi, Mporokoso, and Mpulungu communities.

In partnership with the Zambia Association of Sisterhoods and Caritas Kasama and with support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation this project empowers the marginalized and protects the vulnerable. It aims to build inclusive environments that provide everyone with the tools they need to thrive."

People often talk about bridging the information gap, but rarely the need to bridge the power gap.We have invested years of advocacy towards a future where mining is transparent, fair, and beneficial, and our communities are finally positioned to ensure that the wealth beneath their feet creates real, lasting prosperity for their families and generations to follow.

Our Economic and Social Accountability programme, through our diocesesan partner Caritas Chipata, held an engagement meeting in Nyimba District, as a step towards ensuring that communities living at the heart of Zambia’s resource-rich areas are never left behind in the conversation about their own future.

​The conversation included a cross-section of key stakeholders, including traditional chiefs, community members from mining areas, local council representatives, and mine owners, joined by senior officials from the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development, who provided a detailed walkthrough of key legislative pillars: the Geological and Minerals Development Act, Mining Trading Permits, Local Content Regulations, and the Mineral Regulation Commission.
Remember that Informed communities ask better questions and negotiate more effectively!

Highlights from the Parliament Day celebrations, held under the theme: "𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞."
An inclusive Parliament that truly meets the needs of all Zambians, a legislature that listens to the real-life struggles of its people. Through the livelihoods programme, we consistently engage Parliament across various platforms to advocate for inclusive policy-making, and this event provided a meaningful opportunity to highlight critical issues surrounding farmers' rights, the protection of our local seeds, and the development of stronger food systems.

We exhibited our work alongside other organizations implementing similar projects supported by the UNDP Zambia GEF Small Grants Programme all working together toward a more representative and resilient future for our local communities Centre for Trade Policy and Development Pelum Zambia

𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐚𝐛𝐰𝐞 .

A milestone towards a child friendly Zambia as we officially launched the "Voices of Accountability: Advancing Child Rights" project in Kabwe, an event graced by the Assistant Secretary for Central Province, Mr. Bravo Mazuba, who, speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, issued a call to action for stronger accountability in the fulfillment of children’s rights and the delivery of equitable outcomes for every child in the nation.

​Mr. Mazuba welcomed the project as an important intervention that directly complements the Government’s ongoing quest to protect the youngest members of our society. He emphasized that by monitoring services, laws, and budgets within Central Province, this initiative provides a necessary framework to ensure that no child is left behind.

This initiative, implemented through our diocesesan partner Caritas Kabwe with the support of Save the Children Zambia , is designed to bridge the gap between policy and practice, by strengthening the capacity of civil society actors, including children themselves, to monitor, report, and follow up on the commitments made by duty-bearers.

Our goal is to ensure that every promise made in our laws and policy documents is reflected in the reality of child-centered budgets and quality service delivery. The project was co-launched with Women for Change Amplifying Child Rights Project.

Livingstone is currently at the center of a historic moment for climate justice as Zambia becomes the first African nation to host the Eighth Meeting of the Board for the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), running from 22nd to 24th April 2026. This gathering represents an important step forward in addressing the global climate crisis, but the true heartbeat of this mission lies in the communities experiencing these impacts firsthand.

Caritas Livingstone-DEVELOPMENT, under the Catholic Diocese of Livingstone, together with Caritas Zambia and Caritas Africa (as part of the global Caritas Confederation), facilitated a site visit to Nsongwe Village.This community, supported by Caritas, serves as a clear example of the deep economic and non-economic losses caused by climate change. The visit led by the Executive Director of the FRLD, the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, and the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) directly to Nsongwe, allowed policymakers shaping the global response to witness the local reality of those living through these challenges.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the Catholic Church and the global Caritas Confederation to safeguarding God’s creation. By bridging the gap between policy and local struggle, we continue to advocate for a future where justice and resilience are a reality for every community.

Caritas Zambia, through its diocesan partner Caritas Kasama and with support from Save the Children Zambia , has embarked on a project dubbed "𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬." Through monitoring, reporting, and advocacy, the project’s sole purpose is to enhance the capacity of civil society actors, including children, to claim civic space and hold duty-bearers accountable for the equitable fulfillment of children’s rights.
As children in Zambia continue to face multiple challenges that jeopardize their well-being, this project serves as an important role in response to establish decisive monitoring systems.
