Title: Every Person Needs Encouragement.
Text: Luke 22:31-32
[31]And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.
[32]But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
"Encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." 1 Thess 5:11
Every person needs encouragement or will need encouragement either today or some other day, in one way or the other.
Satan has bad intentions against God's people. He plans to embarrass and discredit them. Thank God, Jesus always gives us victory.
When one is under attack, the Lord expects other children of God to be there for them to strengthen/encourage them.
Simon, was about to hit his lowest point in life and ministry. Before it happened, Jesus alerted him and made him to know that He prayed for him.
He was further given instructions to strengthen others, after his coming out of his challenging experience.
To face the challenges of life we need courage. To encourage is to do an act of giving someone courage.
It is to build someone's confidence, to inspire, to incite, instill courage, to strengthen another person's mind etc.
How Then Can We Encourage And Build Each Other?
Here are some of the ways we may encourage and build up each other as believers;
1. Through words (spoken and written).
Where one is doing or has done well, we need to commend or praise them. Praise them even for the little effort they are putting in. Like Paul did in the above verse.
Nice words edify - Ephesians 4:29
[29]Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
2. By giving spiritual support:
Pray for and with someone you desire to encourage.
Sometimes let them know that you are praying for them.
Luke 22:31-32
[31]And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.
[32]But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” (2 Tim 1:3, Col 1:9).
Share an appropriate word, a Bible verse with someone feeling discouraged or is facing a discouraging situation.
3. By giving physical support:
Help or and stand with a brother or sister in need, by doing so you may not know how much hope and courage you may instill in them.
4. By your physical presence.
By being there for each other.
Presence matters - there are situations that call for physical presence of a beloved one. Nothing else is greatly needed at such a time more than a loved one being present.
5. By being grateful:
A grateful act, may lift someone's heart.
A thank you statement can be motivating to someone. Thank people for every good thing they do.
Choose to be an encourager and may God give you the grace to do so.
Prayer
God I thank you for this wonderful day. Thank you for every blessing that this day brings with it.
Thank you Lord Jesus that you have positioned me to be an encourager in my family and in all my circles of influence.
Dear Lord Jesus, I pray for every person that may be faced with a situation that has troubled their mind.
I pray for my family, friends, neighbors and everyone else that is fighting a challenge.
May they all find strength in You, in Jesus name.
