“Beholding Christ: The Secret of True Transformation”
2 Corinthians 3:18
Many believers today are exhausted trying to “be better Christians” through their own strength. Yet the apostle Paul teaches that lasting transformation does not begin with striving harder — it begins with beholding the glory of Christ.
1. Christianity is first about Christ, not self-improvement
The heart of the Christian life is not merely behavior modification. It is knowing Christ deeply. Many focus on changing habits without first fixing their eyes on the Savior.
“Looking unto Jesus…” — Epistle to the Hebrews 12:2
The more we see Him, the more we become like Him.
2. Humanity becomes what it worships
Every human being is a worshipper. The question is not whether people worship, but who or what they worship.
Some worship money — and by all means they must have money.
Some worship outward beauty.
Some worship success.
Others worship relationships.
Some worship status and recognition.
Some ultimately worship themselves.
Humanity slowly takes the shape of the thing it admires most. What captures the heart eventually influences the character, desires, and direction of a person’s life.
That is why beholding Christ is everything. When Christ becomes the focus of our hearts, His character begins to shape ours.
Book of Psalms 115 teaches that those who trust in idols become like them. In the same way, those who behold Christ are transformed into His likeness.
3. Transformation happens by beholding
Paul says:
“We all… beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed…”
The word transformed speaks of an inward change. True holiness grows when the heart is captivated by Christ’s beauty, grace, holiness, and love.
A person becomes like what they continually admire.
4. Striving alone produces frustration
Many Christians become weary because they depend only on discipline and effort. While obedience matters, outward effort without communion with Christ often leads to dryness, pride, or discouragement.
Holiness is not achieved merely by trying harder, but by walking closely with Christ.
5. The knowledge of Christ is the church’s greatest need
The church does not primarily need entertainment, popularity, or worldly methods. Our greatest need is to know Christ rightly and deeply.
Paul the Apostle said:
“That I may know Him…”
— Epistle to the Philippians 3:10
The more Christ is known, the more genuine worship, repentance, humility, and holiness will grow.
6. True assurance comes from encountering God
A believer reaches confidence in God not merely through arguments, but through personally experiencing His transforming work.
When Christ changes the heart, forgives sin, gives peace, and produces new desires, a believer begins to say:
“Surely, there is a God in heaven.”
7. Sanctification is ongoing
As believers, we continue growing and reforming through God’s grace. We never outgrow our need for Christ.
Every day we must return again to behold Him through:
Scripture
Prayer
Worship
Fellowship
Obedience
Closing Thought
The Christian life is not sustained by merely trying harder, but by seeing Christ more clearly. The more we behold His glory, the more the Holy Spirit transforms us into His likeness.
🙏 “Lord, turn our eyes away from lesser things and teach us to behold the glory of Christ.”
