Lesson 1:

The Meaning of the Church
What the Church is Not
No one will deny that the Bible talks about a church. But whose church? Which church? What church?

These questions, and many others, will be answered in time. Right now we want to find out what the church is.
What the Church is
Since it is none of these, what is it?
Most people do not understand the church. Why? Because they do not know what it is. As a result, they do not understand the purpose of the church, the importance of the church, or the work of the church. But the Bible plainly tells us what the church is. The word church comes from the Greek word "ekklesia." It means "the called out." So the church is a called out body of people. They have been called out of the world into the kingdom of God’s dear Son (Colossians 1:13). It is the spiritual body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27). It is made up of those who have obeyed Christ (Hebrews 5:8-9).

The church are those who have been saved by Him. He adds them to His church (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:47).

Another way of saying it is the church is made up of the followers of Christ.

The Word "Church"
The word "church" appears in the Bible in two ways. First, it is spoken of in the world-wide way. This is what Christ had in mind when He said, "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18).

There are many other verses where the word "church" is used to speak of it in the whole-world way. That is, everywhere the church may be found in the world, if it is the Bible church, then it is that church which Jesus said He would build.
Second, it is spoken of in the local way. For instance, when Paul was writing to the church at Rome, and speaking of the various congregations, he said, "...The churches of Christ greet you" (Romans 16:16). He wasn’t speaking of a number of churches or denominations. He was speaking of a number of local congregations of the Lord’s church. To further explain, you will note that the Scriptures speak of the church at Philippi, etc. (1 Corinthians 1:2; Ephesians 1:1; Philippians 1:1).
All of this is confusing to some people because they are used to thinking of the church only in the terms of denominationalism.
But you will not read of any denomination in the Word of God. In the churches just mentioned, there are several congregations spoken of. Each congregation is the Lord’s church in its particular community. All of them together make up the church world-wide. It is so simple when denominationalism is forgotten. All one has to do is go to the Bible and see the church as the Lord gave it. To help us to understand the meaning of the church better, let us realize that the Bible speaks of the church as being:
1. The body of Christ. It is the spiritual body of Christ. Christ is its head (Ephesians 5:23). There is but one body (Ephesians 4:4). The one body is the one church (Colossians 1:18).
2. The household of God. The word "house" in the Bible suggests family. This helps us to understand that the church is the family of God. In 1 Timothy 3:15, Paul says that the house of God is the church of the living God. God is the Father and we are His children (Galatians 3:26-27).
3. The kingdom of God. Kingdom suggest a King. Christ is the King (Revelation 17:14). But to be a king, the kingdom has to exist now, and it does (Acts 8:12). We are Christ’s people. The world is His territory. The New Testament is His law. This is the church (Matthew 16:18-19). The kingdom and the church are the same.

4. The vineyard of the Lord. Christ is the vine. Individual Christians are the branches (John 15:1-8). Christians must work in the church and bear fruit for the Lord.
Conclusion
We now can see what the church is. Please study these matters in light of the Bible and see for yourself. If you will see the church as God intended for you to see it, then your whole attitude will be changed and perhaps even your life.

*GOOD MORNING BRETHREN *

*GOD'S PLAN : CONFUSING GOOD SPIRITUAL THINGS WITH GOD HIMSELF*

*1 Samuel 4:4–5: “So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from there the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly that the earth shook.”*

● Israel went to battle against the Philistines and lost, so they decided to bring the ark of the covenant to the battlefield in the belief that it would make the Lord give them victory.

● It was bad enough that they brought the ark but even worse, they brought the two sons of Eli, both of whom God had already given a pronouncement against.

_● The relationship was being replaced with superstition as they tried to use the ark to exercise authority over God, rather than the other way around._

*Bringing the ark into battle wouldn’t guarantee victory any more than a rabbit’s foot or horseshoe brings its owner good luck*.

● Not only did the Philistines defeat them for a second time, but they also captured the ark and took it back to one of their cities.

● The Lord will not allow His people’s spiritual condition to deteriorate to a superstitious use of Himself.

*Spiritual power cannot be obtained by carrying a Bible or wearing a cross.*

● Just like the ark, these religious things have value only if they move our hearts to draw closer in our relationship with God.

_No matter how many religious props a person may collect around them, God will not be manipulated._

● Most of us are guilty at one time or another of trying to manipulate God when we pray.

*Augustine said, “We are restless until we find our rest in God.”*

_●This is what God offers, rest for our souls_.

But often we have something different in mind, something more material.

● Sometimes even well-meaning and sincere believers confuse faith and superstition, relying on prayer as some kind of magical chant.

● Prayer isn’t our opportunity to tell God what to do, but our privilege to lay our needs (and other people) before our loving and caring heavenly Father.

● I read the story of the simple prayer of Bobby Richardson, a committed Christian and second basemen for the New York Yankees during the 50s and 60s, serves to remind us of Who has the power when we pray:

*“Dear God, Your will, nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. Amen.”*

Blessed weekend and welcome to new month Keep Keeping On as we stop confusing good spiritual things with God Himself 🙏🙏🙏🙏

It’s easy to pray for peace.

We long for stillness, for calm in the storm, for relief from anxiety.

But too often, peace becomes something we ask for only when everything feels out of control — like a rescue line tossed into the chaos.

And while God absolutely meets us in those moments, He also invites us into something deeper.

Not just a moment of peace, but a posture of peace.

Not just relief, but a way of living.

To carry peace not only in crisis but in the in-between.

To walk with steady hearts — not because everything is perfect, but because we trust the One who is.

Philippians 4:6–7 reminds us:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Peace that guards.

Peace that transcends understanding.

That’s not just a feeling — it’s a posture. A position of the soul that says, “I may not understand, but I trust.”

When peace becomes our posture:

We respond instead of reacting.

We listen more than we defend.

We move slower, with intention.

We breathe deeper in the presence of God, not just in the absence of problems.

This peace is not passive — it’s active trust.

It shows up in your tone, your choices, your pace, your presence.

And it doesn’t mean ignoring pain or pretending everything is fine.

It means you face what’s real with the quiet confidence that you’re not facing it alone.

Jesus said in John 14:27:

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

The world’s peace depends on circumstances.

God’s peace is rooted in His unchanging character.

Let this be your prayer today:

“God, I don’t want to treat peace like a lifeline I only reach for when I’m sinking. I want to wear it like armor — steady, quiet, and constant.

Psalm 23 (KJV)
1. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

MY GOD SEE YOU THOUGH IN ALL YOUR ENDEAVOURS.

24/11/2020

Greetings saints of the most high God.
Peace be still

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
