AWANA LUSAKA BIBLE QUIZ COMPETITION

On 5th April 2025, Awana Lusaka successfully hosted a Bible Quiz competition at Champion Worship Center. The event drew participation from five churches: Redeemed Church, Champion Worship Center, Lilanda CMML, Apostolic Faith and Acts Church, and Salvation and Truth Church. This gathering not only showcased the enthusiasm for biblical knowledge but also fostered a sense of community among the participating churches.

The competition was keenly contested, with each church demonstrating a strong understanding of biblical teachings. In the end, Lilanda CMML emerged victorious with an impressive 946 points, securing the first position. They were closely followed by Apostolic Faith and Acts Church, who took the second position with 888 points. Redeemed Christian Army came in third with 818 points, while Champion Worship Center secured the fourth position with 740 points. Salvation and Truth Church finished fifth with 670 points.

The event was well-attended, with a total of 135 clubbers and 35 leaders present. This turnout highlighted the growing interest in Bible knowledge and the importance of such events in fostering spiritual growth among young people. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and harmony, as participants and spectators alike celebrated the joy of learning and sharing biblical truths.

In his closing remarks, Pastor Mtonga the Awana southern region missionary emphasized the growth of Awana beyond Lusaka, noting its expansion into Eastern and Southern Provinces. He encouraged the ministry team to take a proactive role in spearheading future activities, stating: "Awana is growing not only in Lusaka but also in Eastern Province and Southern Province. As a ministry team, you need to take the front role in spearheading the activities." This call to action underscored the importance of continued engagement and leadership in promoting Awana's mission.

The Awana District Chairperson, Uncle Paul Tembo, also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to all participating churches for their involvement in this year's Bible Quiz. He urged the leaders present to begin preparations for upcoming events, emphasizing the need for continued participation and engagement. This message reinforced the collaborative spirit that defines Awana's efforts to promote biblical knowledge and community building.

The event was a resounding success, marking another milestone in Awana's ongoing mission of discipleship and evengalism.

AWANA ZAMBIA CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE ACTION AGAINST SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN AND WOMEN

AWANA Zambia, a Christian non-governmental organization (NGO) working with children and youth across Zambia, is greatly disturbed by the rise in cases of sexual abuse towards children and women in the country. It is particularly sad that one of the recently reported cases involved a spiritual leader of a named church, a place which is meant to provide protection and godly training towards all, including children and women.

Sexual abuse in all its forms and kind towards children and women is not only evil but undermines the dignity of the victims and exposes them to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV/AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis and human papillomavirus (HPV) among others.
These STDs can have severe physical and emotional consequences for children and women who have been abused and sometimes result in death.

As AWANA Zambia, we not only call for speed support through the provision of immediate medical attention and support to victims but also for a collective stand against this growing vice in our communities.

We take this opportunity to encourage parents and guardians not to cover up these heinous crimes within families because it affects the mental health of the victims and affects the education of children. The church must continue to deliver its spiritual mandate to all and not turn it into a place of harm to children and women.

Last but not least, the government, through the relevant authorities, must ensure timely delivery of justice to victims of these heinous acts because justice delayed is justice denied.
