THE REMNANTS OF A GENERATION
KEY SCRIPTURE: Genesis 17:1-7
1. GOD WORKS THROUGH GENERATIONS
- God’s plan is too big to be fulfilled in one generation. What begins with one person continues to the next.
- Whenever God looks at you, He is thinking generationally; everything you do must speak beyond your lifetime.
- Every generation writes its own story and responds to the question: “what will be said about us when our time is over?”
- Every generation has something unique about it: Some are remembered for revival, innovation, pioneering or challenging the status quo.
- Every generation has someone who will arise but there are also generations remembered for compromise (Judges 2:10)
2. EVERY GENERATION HAS GOT REMNANTS
- A remnant is a small, faithful group of believers who remain loyal to their faith during periods of widespread conflict.
- Characteristics of a remnant
i) They stand for something: They are not neutral and they have convictions.
ii) They shape something: they are not merely survivors but builders and rebuilders.
iii) They preserve and pass on something.
- The change in a generation is triggered by the remnant.
- We have a responsibility to be courageous and be a remnant of our generation.
3. WHAT WILL THIS GENERATION HAND OVER?
• Our generation is already facing the consequences of decisions made by our forefathers.
- The remnants must arise and help shape the choices of those coming after us.
- The most important question to ask ourselves is: “What can God use you for so that you build for generations?”
