And so Lent begins...
The Collect for Ash Wednesday
[The Book of Common Prayer]
"Almighty and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that Thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all them that are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we worthily lamenting our sins, and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of Thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
ON Ash Wednesday, Christians everywhere will begin the solemn days of prayer, fasting, and self-denial that mark the holy Season of Lent. The focus of Lent is not only upon sin but also upon our redemption; it is not only about ourselves as sinners in need of Godโs mercy and grace but also about the corporate sin of the world, and Godโs redeeming love in Christ, the Saviour of the world.
As in the time of the patriarchs, and the time of the apostles, the Church with all her faithful, is called back from the life of sin to the life of grace in Jesus Christ. Through the daily readings from Holy Scripture set out in the Prayer Book Lectionary for the Forty Days of Lent, our original conversion to the life of a Christian will be recalled; and through self-examination and repentance, be renewed. Acknowledgement of sin in our life will give way to contrition of heart and soul โ the sincere and heartfelt sorrow for our sins, negligences and offences which were the cause of our Lordโs Passion and Death. Our contrition, in turn, will be met by Godโs loving forgiveness, absolution and pardon. The power of Christโs atoning death upon the Cross will seal our forgiveness in the redemption of our souls and bodies, washed and made clean in the blood of His all-sufficient Sacrifice. This is the pattern of Lent; it is the pattern of our redemption.
Lent provides each of us an opportunity to reflect on our lives and on God's place in it. We are exhorted to examine our thoughts, words, and deeds in light of His commandments; and to undergo a metanoia -- a change of heart -- that our old lives may be transformed into the likeness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Lent also draws us back to a simpler life -- a life focused on God and His saving actions in our lives. Through fasting and self-denial we are provided opportunities to spend time with God in prayer and meditation. By forsaking some temporal nourishment and entertainment we are able to partake of eternal nourishment -- fortifying our spiritual lives by reading and meditating on God's holy Word and feeding on the spiritual food of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in Holy Communion. We are reminded by our Lord, โman does not live on bread alone but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.โ
The pattern of our Lordโs Passion, Death, and Resurrection for the salvation of the world is also the pattern of our own redemption from the power of sin unto eternal life. And the Season of Lent leading to Passiontide and Easter is the journey we must take if we are to โdie daily unto sin, and live with Him evermore in the glory of His endless life.โ
Finally, it is important that we do not forget to practice acts of charity and self-discipline in memory of our Lord's great act of love and self-denial on the Cross. 'Give up' something in order to 'give of' yourself to God and others. We are to do all as true acts of penitence and discipline; remembering that our Father in heaven sees what we do 'in secret' and will reward us accordingly, both in this life and in the life to come.

Here is a lovely Sunday evening prayer for you.
15/02/2026
The first service of Rev. Fr. James Tupa at Christ the King Church, Chunga, held on 1st February, marked a meaningful beginning to his priestly ministry among the faithful.
A new chapter, the same Gospel, faithfully proclaimed.
We hope you attended and enjoyed service in the house of the Lord today.
Two weeks ago yesterday, the Church in Zambia gathered in prayer and thanksgiving for the ordination of ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐.
In his sermon, Archbishop Gill preached from the account of the ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฆ๐ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐๐น, drawing attention not only to Paul himself, but to ๐๐ป๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐ฎ๐, the often-overlooked figure in the story. He reminded the Church that Ananias appears briefly in Scripture, yet his obedience to Godโs call, despite his fear of Saul, changed the course of history. Through that single act of faithfulness, the Church received Paul, his missionary journeys, and the letters that continue to shape Christian faith across the world.
The Archbishop commended the now ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐. ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐ ๐ง๐๐ฝ๐ฎ for answering Godโs call to ordained ministry, and challenged all who were present to reflect on their own response to Godโs calling, whether visible or unseen, prominent or quiet.
It was a solemn and joyful moment for the Diocese and for the wider Church, a reminder that God continues to call and to work through faithful obedience.

During the Confirmation Service for the Parishes in Lusaka, Bishop Stephen Smuts delivered a timely and pastoral message, speaking directly to the faith, responsibility, and maturity expected of those confirmed.
In his preaching, he emphasised that ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ ๐น๐ฎ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ถ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ on the life of the believer, a moment that cannot be undone, but must be lived out in faithfulness and obedience within the life of the Church.
We invite you to watch, reflect, and be encouraged.
As part of their visit to Zambia, the Bishops gathered the Church for a ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฎ, conducted by ๐๐ถ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ฝ ๐ฆ๐๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฒ๐ป.
Candidates from across the Lusaka parishes were presented by their clergy and confirmed in the presence of the wider Church. The service formed part of the Archbishopโs wider pastoral and episcopal programme in the Diocese and reflected the steady growth and preparation taking place across the parishes.
We are grateful for Bishop Stephenโs ministry during this service, for the work of the clergy in preparing the candidates, and for the families and congregations who supported those confirmed.
As a Diocese, we give thanks for this moment and continue to pray for those confirmed as they grow in faith and service within the life of the Church.

They are here!
We are grateful to confirm that the Archbishop and his delegation are now in the country. Confirmations were conducted yesterday, and pictures from that service will be shared during the week.
Today is the big day!
The Church gathers in prayer and thanksgiving for the ordination of Rev. James Tupa to the Order of Priesthood.
We invite the whole Church to continue praying with us as we mark this important moment in the life of the Diocese.
On 11th January 2026, the Church at St. John the Evangelist, Makeni Parish, gathered in thanksgiving and joy as new members were received into the Church through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.
This sacred moment marked the beginning of a new journey of faith for those baptised, a journey rooted in repentance, grace, and new life in Christ. For some, this step was also taken in faithful preparation for Confirmation during the upcoming visit of the Archbishop, expected in Zambia later this month.
Baptism is more than a rite. It is incorporation into the Body of Christ and a commitment to live as His disciples within the fellowship of the Church. On this day, the congregation, families, and sponsors stood together in support, affirming their shared responsibility to nurture and uphold the newly baptised in faith and prayer.
We give thanks to God for this growth and for the continued strengthening of the Church in Makeni and beyond.
โBuried with Him in baptism, and raised with Him through faith.โ (Colossians 2:12)

We are the Continuing Anglican Communion in Zambia (C.A.C.Z.). A fellowship committed to continuing in the Christian faith which our fathers had and practiced. We have vowed never to compromise the Word of God in any way.
The journey of the C.A.C.Z. began 19 years ago when we decided to separate ourselves from the Canterbury Anglican Communion (church). In 1998 we saw that liberal theology was slowly creeping into the Canterbury Communion, a church that has had a sound biblical teaching for a very long time.
It was on 19th July, 1999 when we felt that we could no longer be part of a church that was following what the pagan world was doing. We decided to continue in the faith of the early apostles, emphasizing the use of the Book of Common Prayer and pressing forward in the teaching of the Catholic (Universal) Faith as it has been passed on to us.
Our journey after we left the Canterbury Anglican Communion has not been easy. Our faithful members who vowed to defend the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:7) had to leave their well- developed buildings and began to meet in houses and school classrooms or even under trees. The two ordained priests at that time had to work hard to keep the members together and to support the ministry. This meant looking for financial resources to buy land, construct church buildings and train the manpower. It has been hard to live this Anglican life but we thank God our Father Who is always faithful and powerful, providing all that we need always. He has indeed provided and now we are well established to do His work. Our integrity has been tested and we are respected. We are like the early church which began from nothing and grew to be a force to reckon with. It is a great blessing to begin such work in simplicity and to see it grow and bear fruit.
The first Vicar General of the C.A.C.Z. was the late very Reverend Fr. Pierre Joseph Dil, former Dean of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka (May 1989 โJune 1999). He was instrumental in making sure the people were informed of the wrong teaching that was emerging in the Canterbury Communion. He was convinced that liberalism had entered the Canterbury Communion. In setting up the CACZ, the late Fr. Dil was assisted by the then Fr. Andrew Mukuyamba now Bishop of the CACZ, who also left the Canterbury Communion for the same reason.
In 2000 CACZ established a Theological Seminary at Makeni Ecumenical Centre campus with an enrolment of six (6) young men who trained as priests. Out of these, four were ordained to priesthood and are still serving in the church. In 2005 Another group of five (5) was enrolled and three out of the five are serving in the CACZ. Plans are underway to train more clergy and other leaders as the church grows. We have seen tremendous growth in terms of numbers and quality of Christian life. Our parishes are found in Eastern, Central and Lusaka Province. We belong to the Traditional Anglican Communion worldwide together with similar dioceses in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Japan, Canada, United States of America, Australia, England, South America and the Torres Strait.
Our leadership is dynamic, responsible, hard-working and committed to pursuing great things and excellence. Our vision and mission are something we can achieve as there is no reason to fail to achieve what we have purposed to do. We have given ourselves to living a fulfilled and joyous Christian life as we serve our Master โ Jesus Christ.
Our vision is to be a people of Godโs presence in the world and to have a church that demonstrates strong faith in God. Our mission is to defend the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, to uphold the catholic Faith and Doctrine, and to build a vibrant church for the future based on credible leadership.
We have work to do for our Lord Jesus Christ. It is my prayer that all who love God will be obedient to His calling which is upon them.
