Bus Driver and Conductor Injured in Luangwa Road Accident
Two people have been hospitalized following a serious road traffic accident involving a Scania Marco Polo bus, a Volvo truck, and a Howo Sino truck along the Great East Road in Luangwa District.
The accident happened on Thursday 9th October, around 08:00 hours, about 10 kilometres west of Luangwa Bridge.
According to Zambia Police Service Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the bus driver, identified only as Kombe, sustained multiple fractures on his right leg, while the bus conductor also suffered serious injuries. Both are admitted at Katondwe Mission Hospital.
Preliminary investigations show that the accident occurred when the bus driver attempted to overtake another vehicle on a continuous white line and rammed into a stationary Volvo truck parked on the roadside. The impact pushed the bus into an oncoming Howo Sino truck, resulting in extensive damage to all three vehicles.
The Volvo truck, registration numbers AIE 6969ZM (Horse) and AJD 9002T (Trailer), was being driven by Boniface Sichimo, aged 32, while the Howo truck, registration number BLC 4807, was driven by Hastings Muntanga, aged 38, of Lusaka West.
Mr Moonga say one lane remains blocked, and a crane is being dispatched to remove the wreckage. Motorists have been urged to drive with extreme caution when passing through the area.
