Teaching: Stillness is Knowing God
Scripture: Psalms 46:10–11
By Pastor Francis Godfrey Mulando
When you are still, then you will know God. The Bible tells us to be still and know that He is God. The Bible is not saying have faith and know God, but be still and know God. There is a difference between having faith and knowing God, and being still and knowing God.
A believer should know God and not only have faith in God. This is because faith is like a signpost which only points. It is like you are in the bush and you want to see a lion, and they give you a map and say this is where the lion is. So when you are in the bush you will see the footprints of the lion, and will start following the footprints. When you see the lion, can you continue to follow the footprints? No, you will abandon them because you are now seeing the lion.
So when you know God, you put away your faith. Knowing and faith are two different things. God is with all of us, but some are still believing instead of knowing Him. We start by believing, but we should end up by knowing Him.
For you to know God, you are supposed to be still. Once you are still, you will know the move of God, what He wants, what He has done, and what He is doing. You will know what God wants from you the moment you are still. But if you are not still, you are not going to know God.
Without being still, you will miss what God has ordained for you. In stillness is where God is known. You can't know God when there is too much noise, but the moment you calm yourself down, you go beyond the noise that is inside you. You will be able to know God. Once you are still, knowledge will follow. You will know God and understand what He is doing.
Inside of us there is too much noise. When we talk about noise, we are saying worrying, anxiety, fear of the unknown. As long as there is too much noise inside you, that noise will block you from seeing or hearing what God is saying. Some of you are worried, and that is noise in your mind. Anxiety is noise. Fear is noise. Blaming others is noise. As long as there is too much noise inside you, you are not going to hear what God is saying or see what God is doing.
A lot of us focus on the noise, and when there is too much noise inside you, you can't prophesy or hear God. As long as you keep entertaining that noise, breakthrough will be far away from you.
Do you know what is blocking you? The noise inside of you. That is why you can't hear God. Even when prophecy is given, because of the noise you think the prophet is guessing. You should reduce the volume of the noise inside you.
How do you know God?
By calming yourself down. By relaxing. Tell yourself, “Take it easy.” David said to himself, “My soul, why are you bothered? Believe in the Lord.”
Be in one place. Do not blame people for the wrong they did. Be calm and focus on yourself. The moment you are still, you will hear God.
In stillness is where strength lies. If you want to be strong in the things of the Spirit, learn to calm down all the time. Then you will know what God is doing.
Exodus 14:10
Inside, you may be panicking and worried, but when you are like that you can never see breakthrough. Do not fear, but be still.
How you respond to a situation matters. When you are in a situation where you do not know what to do, be calm. It does not matter how big your situation is you can still come out.
When you calm down, you will see the salvation of the Lord, the move of the Lord, the way out of your situation. You will see the hand of God lifting you out of your situation. That is when you will see the Lord making a way for you. But if you are not calm, the situation will worsen.
It is time for you to come out of that situation. It is time to move forward. If you are believing God for something, the condition is for you to be still. When you are still, you will see chains breaking.
In stillness we know God.
In stillness we become strong.
In stillness we cross the bridge.
In stillness we cross the line to the other side.
In stillness we become rich.
In stillness we move forward.
In stillness we are healed.
In stillness we are victorious.
In stillness we confuse our enemies. Greater is He who is in us than the one in the world. In stillness God is able to lift you.
When you learn to be still, you will come out of limitation. You will be surprised by the strength that comes from the Lord.
You are not a loser.
You are not down.
You are not what people think you are.
You are not blocked.
The key to open the cage is stillness.
In stillness we receive instructions.
We understand mysteries.
We become prophetic.
We see what others cannot see.
