Sermon: FORGIVENESS
BY JESSICA KAIMBO
Yesterday’s message was about “forgiveness “
Where we were told that forgiveness is One of the most spoken words in the Bible.
Forgiveness is an act of Mercy, Love and Grace. It sets us free from the punishment of our inequities, transgressions and sin. We were also told that in order for us to acquire this act of mercy, love and grace, we must be willing to repent from our sins because we are too filthy to stand before The Lord.
In 1st John 1:9 we are told that If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Furthermore more , the woman of God stretched out by emphasizing on why forgiveness is important in the life of us believers and that it should not be from God only but we must practice it amongst ourselves. In Matthew 18 we see a man who begged for forgiveness from a king and yet he could not forgive his fellow man who owed him debt. We must be willing to forgive others if we are to be forgiven for our debts too.
We were also told that forgiveness is in two ways, forgiveness from God and forgiveness from man.
From God we receive forgiveness and from man we receive and give forgiveness. God is righteousness and therefore He cannot ask for forgiveness from man. As believers we should not hold on to any offense because unforgiveness leaves our hearts crushed and broken in sin.
We must have our hearts kept without offense so that we are able to produce the fruits of forgiveness.
In Mark 4:3-20 we see that our hearts are like a field where forgiveness is planted but we can only produce such fruits if we keep our field fertile.
We should not have a heart that is like a field along the road side where our seed of forgiveness is crushed by things of the world or like a field of thorns where we can produce forgiveness but because of the sins we hold on to, we cannot produce forgiveness in full. We should also not have our hearts like a rocky field where we our hearts cannot grow any fruits of forgiveness.
Finally , the woman of God encouraged us to assess our hearts and check if we are in right standing with God and our fellow men. She also encouraged us to be humble, obedient, patient, loving in order for us to be made right with God.
