If you believed and are baptized in Jesus’ name you are secured and saved”
The teaching of Jesus in Gospel of Mark 16:16 is strongly supported by several other passages in the New Testament. From the Apostolic Oneness perspective, salvation involves faith in Christ, water baptism in His name, and the new birth experience.
👉1. Jesus Himself Taught Belief + Baptism
In Gospel of Mark 16:16 Jesus said:
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
Two important truths appear here:
Belief (faith in Jesus)
Baptism (obedient response to faith)
Jesus connected both with salvation.
Faith alone is not presented as the full response—belief must lead to obedience.
👉2. The Apostles Preached the Same Plan
When the church began in Acts of the Apostles, the apostles obeyed Jesus’ command.
Acts 2:38
“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
This shows three elements:
Repentance
Baptism in Jesus’ Name
Receiving the Holy Spirit
This is often called the New Testament plan of salvation.
👉3. Baptism Is Connected With Salvation
The apostles clearly taught that baptism is not just symbolic but part of entering salvation.
1 Peter 3:21
From First Epistle of Peter
“Baptism doth also now save us…”
Peter directly links baptism with salvation.
👉4. Baptism Puts Us Into Christ
Galatians 3:27
From Epistle to the Galatians
“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”
Through baptism, a believer identifies with Christ.
👉5. Baptism Connects Us With Christ’s Death
Romans 6:3–4
From Epistle to the Romans
“So many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death… we are buried with him by baptism.”
Apostolic teaching explains that:
Burial with Christ = baptism in water
The believer participates in the saving work of Jesus.
👉6. The Name of Jesus Is Essential
The early church consistently baptized in Jesus’ name:
Acts of the Apostles 2:38
Acts of the Apostles 8:16
Acts of the Apostles 10:48
Acts of the Apostles 19:5
Because:
Acts 4:12
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.”
That name is Jesus.
✅ Summary (Apostolic View)
Salvation in the New Testament includes:
Faith in Jesus Christ
Repentance from sin
Water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ
Receiving the Holy Spirit
This follows the pattern taught by Jesus and practiced by the apostles.
