Dear Partners in the Gospel,
Following recent reports of COVID Positive cases within our Salvation Army ministry units and in light of the Minister of Health's
Press Conference today I write to you to provide the highlights of the Minister's presentation:
COVID 19 is
Now reaching ALARMING levels in the country
850 new cases in the last 24 hours (most from Lusaka)
Lusaka now the epi-centre of the epidemic
entire country is recording cases - non are unaffected
regionally (Zimb/Botswana etc) are all affected in this surge of cases
nation is quickly moving from cases being 'casual' in nature to critical (ICU)
Therefore,
essential travel only
no need for anyone to travel to Lusaka
closure notices are being issued for those who do not comply
all entertainment spots are to be closed for disinfections
wearing of masks is for solidarity
avoid person to person contact
avoid public gatherings of any kind
5 steps for prevention remain in place - 'mask on is mask ON' - nose and mouth
do not go to hospitals unless you have serious symptoms - hospitals are highly infectious locations
In light of these statements and after consultation with health specialists and advice from the Board of Trustees Leadership is
making the decision today to close all corps gatherings effective today until January 30th. A further review of the situation will
be made during that last week of January and a communication will be sent out to lift the closure or extended the 'self isolation'.
I take this opportunity to inform you also that the Cadets Welcome Meeting is cancelled and that an 'in house welcome' will
take place with only cadets and staff after the newly arrived cadets have completed their quarantine period of 14 days.
I cannot impress upon you strongly enough the urgency to follow completely the COVID restrictions.
