Understanding Spiritual Identity

“And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?” — Acts 19:15
The encounter between the sons of Sceva and the demonic spirit in the book of Acts reveals one of the deepest spiritual truths in Scripture: spiritual authority is rooted in spiritual identity.

The demon did not question the existence of Jesus or the authority of Paul. It recognized both because heaven had validated them. But when it came to the sons of Sceva, the spirit asked a terrifying question: “Who are you?”
This question was not about their names. It was about their identity, authority, relationship, and spiritual authenticity.

1. Identity Is More Than Association
The sons of Sceva attempted to cast out demons by saying:
“We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.” — Acts 19:13
Notice carefully: they did not know Jesus personally. They only knew about Him through Paul. They were trying to operate on borrowed revelation and secondhand power.

Many believers today are connected to church, ministry, titles, and religious activities, yet have never truly discovered who they are in Christ. They know the God of their pastor, the revelation of their leader, or the prayers of their parents, but they lack personal spiritual identity.
The kingdom of darkness does not respond to borrowed identity. Demons recognize authenticity. Spiritual authority comes from intimacy with God, not mere religious vocabulary.

2. Heaven Must Know You Before Hell Respects You
The demon declared:
“Jesus I know”
“Paul I know”
This reveals something powerful: Paul had become known in the spirit realm because of his relationship with Christ, his consecration, obedience, sacrifice, and authority.
Your spiritual identity is established by:
Your relationship with Christ
Your obedience to truth
Your submission to God
Your transformation by the Holy Spirit
Your understanding of sonship
Identity in the spirit is not built by appearance; it is built by alignment with God.
Many people desire power without process, authority without intimacy, and manifestation without transformation. But true identity is forged in prayer, surrender, revelation, and communion with God.

3. The Danger of Identity Crisis
The sons of Sceva suffered humiliation because they attempted to function without spiritual legitimacy.
“And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them… so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.” — Acts 19:16

When identity is absent:
Confidence becomes pretence
Ministry becomes performance
Warfare becomes dangerous
Christianity becomes empty religion

Today, I would like to dedicate some time to sharing the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as presented through the teachings of the Bible, I will ensure that personal human opinions or biases do not cloud or influence this message.

To initiate this exploration, let's focus on the critical assertion found in the Scriptures:

"WITHOUT SHEDDING OF BLOOD THERE IS NO FORGIVENESS OF SINS," a verse from Hebrews 9:22 in the King James Version, which powerfully encapsulates the essence of salvation. The passage continues to elaborate that, "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission." This theme of sacrificial blood is echoed in the mosaic law as seen in Leviticus 17:11, where it states, "For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul."

The profound significance of Christ's sacrifice is articulated in Hebrews 9:14-15, which reminds us how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, cleanse our conscience from acts that lead to death, allowing us to serve the living God effectively. For this very reason, He stands as the mediator of the new covenant, whereby His death serves to redeem those who were transgressors under the first testament, ultimately offering them the hope of eternal inheritance.

Likewise, Ephesians 1:5-7 expresses that God has predestined us for adoption as His children through Jesus Christ according to His glorious grace, which He has generously lavished upon us, resulting in our redemption through His blood and forgiveness of sins according to the immense wealth of His grace.

We also find in Colossians 1:14-17 that in Him we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of our sins as it emphasizes Christ as the image of the invisible God, through whom all things in heaven and earth were created. This foundational understanding that all creation is through Him highlights His preeminence and sustenance of all existence. Further elaboration comes from Romans 3:24-27, which states, "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus," emphasizing that it is through faith in His blood that we declare His righteousness and the remission of sins previously committed.

In Acts 20:28, we are reminded of the great cost at which the church was purchased, emphasizing the seriousness and sanctity of this gift of salvation. 1 Peter 1:18-21 underlines that we were not redeemed with perishable things like silver and gold, but rather with the precious blood of Christ, who was foreordained before the foundation of the world, yet revealed in these latter times for our sake.
Equally,
Hebrews 13:20-21 proclaims that God, who raised our Lord Jesus from the dead, the great shepherd, is working within us to fulfill His will through the blood of the everlasting covenant.

Leviticus 17:4 serves as a stern reminder that those who do not present their offerings properly, according to God’s instructions, are held accountable for their actions and are to be cut off from the people, reflecting the serious nature of atonement.

Romans 5:9-11 provides reassurance that being justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God, and that even while we were His enemies, reconciliation has been achieved through the death of His Son, resulting in us rejoicing in God.

Furthermore, 1 John 1:7 reassures believers that walking in the light as He is in the light allows us to have fellowship with one another, and additionally, emphasizes that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.

It is essential to highlight that this represents "THE GOSPEL of Paul," underscoring the necessity of placing our faith in this message to achieve salvation, meaning to be saved from hell. The "BLOOD ATONEMENT" of Christ signifies the "REDEMPTION" of our souls, advocating that one must believe or trust this message with an earnest heart to truly be saved or born again. This aspect of faith is about a heartfelt belief rather than mere cognitive assent.

As expressed in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, the essence of "THE GOSPEL" includes the declaration of the death of Christ for our sins as prophesied in scripture, His burial, and His glorious resurrection on the third day. It is paramount to understand that our salvation is securely rooted in the belief and trust that Jesus Christ, who is God, shed His blood and was crucified for our sins; His resurrection establishes the foundation for our faith. In receiving salvation, one must acknowledge the grace offered without the burden of works, asserting that adding any measure of human righteousness invalidates grace, as indicated in Romans 11:5-6.

Consequently, Ephesians 2:8-9 reinforces that salvation is a gift of God, achieved through faith, and not derived from works, ensuring that no man may boast of his achievements. It is crucial to recognize that the divine judgment we face is not purely based on our sins but rather hinges on whether or not we have believed in "THE GOSPEL OF PAUL," who serves as the apostle to the Gentiles, as suggested in Romans 11:13. Furthermore, Romans 2:15-16 highlights that even the law's principles are embedded within the hearts of individuals, indicating God's universal standards of accountability.

As such, a stern warning is issued against anyone who preaches a gospel distinct from Paul’s teachings or any doctrine straying from these foundational principles, which should be viewed as heresy and thus cursed, as articulated in Galatians 1:8-9. The doctrine of salvation we must uphold is fundamentally grounded in the revelations found in "ROMANS TO PHILEMON."
