VERSE
1 Timothy 4:12 (KJV) Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

INSPIRATION
When we are young, people often don’t take us seriously. It can be frustrating, especially if people are telling you to act like an adult and yet you are treated like a child. Here we see Paul encouraging Timothy to be an example. Instead of dwelling on the disadvantage of youth, focus on being worthy of being looked up to. Focus on maturing spiritually. Let your words and conversations reflect Christ. Pray that your character will reflect Christ, and above all, have faith in God.

PRAYER
LORD, help me to have character that resembles You. Strengthen my faith in You, LORD. Help me to be content with my age and the stage of life I am in. Help me to do what I can do instead of focusing on what I can’t do. Conform and shape me into who you want me to be. Above all, I want to please You. I want to do Your will and live for You. Give me wisdom and insight to do so, and lead me by Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

VERSE
1 Corinthians 13:6 (KJV) Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

INSPIRATION
There is never a time or an excuse for rejoicing in iniquity. We must always flee from immorality and never let it become a part of our lives. When we are in places where immorality is rife, we should take our stand as believers on the word of God. This does not mean we need to be harsh against anyone, no. It is possible to love sinners and evildoers without tolerating their actions. God gives us wisdom to do so.

PRAYER
Dear God, I thank you for your wisdom that enables me to never tolerate or make excuses for immorality. Father, if I am ever in a situation where people rejoice in practicing immorality, may you give me the courage to speak up and the wisdom to say the right words. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Verse

Ephesians 2:4-5 (KJV) But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Inspiration

I must admit that in times of trouble I have demanded that God show me a sign, talk to me, anything to reinforce my faith in him. What an ego I have! We are all so lucky that God gave us the gift of life on earth and life everlasting. It is through his mercy that we have the opportunity to be saved at all. Seek this opportunity and ye shall find it.

Prayer

Father! My heart cries out to you for mercy! We are the clay, and you our potter and all of us are the work of Your hand. Our ancestors have praised you, and now it is our blessing to do the same. I pray that you will use me as a tool for good, and deliver me from sin. I wish to do all things in your holy name, as your son, Jesus Christ, did for us. In his name I pray, Amen.

(((FRESH HOPE)))

((JESUS CHRIST TRUSTED THAT GOD WOULD BE WITH HIM THROUGH IT ALL))

(VERSE)
Luke 24:25-27 (KJV) Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

(INSPIRATION)
Because the people were looking for a strong leader, they often overlooked the passages in the Old Testament that referred to Jesus. Now, I don’t pretend to know all the passages in Scripture that Jesus quoted to the disciples on the road to Emmaus, but I do know some of them. Psalm 22 was quoted by Jesus on the cross. The Jews believe that if you quote any part of a psalm, you are quoting the entire psalm. Jesus prayed the beginning of the psalm, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” He trusted that God would be with him through it all. Further in the psalm we read, “All who see me, mock me,” “They have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all of my bones;” “They divide my garments among them. They cast lots for my clothing.” In Isaiah, we read: “Behold, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” And then we have all of the Suffering Servant references: “Behold, my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights. I have put my Spirit on him. He will bring justice to the nations.” “I will also give you as a light to the nations that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.” “I gave my back to those who beat me and my cheeks to those who plucked off the hair. I didn’t hide my face from shame and spitting.” These are but a few of the references that Jesus might have quoted to Clopas and his companion. With them, they finally understood what the Messiah was all about. However, they didn’t recognize Jesus until the breaking of the bread.

(PRAYER)
Thank you, Lord, for letting us see what those who came before us could not see. Sometimes we, too, can be blinded by what we expect to see, instead of looking at what is right in front of us. Help us to always see your truth. Amen

(VERSE)
Romans 6:23 (KJV) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(INSPIRATION)
We cannot appreciate the magnitude of God's gift of eternal life until we first understand that the wages of sin is death. Wages are what we "earned," what we "deserve." "Death" is not only physical death, here, but spiritual and eternal death. Our sin was an offense to the infinitely holy God, and thus justly deserved eternal punishment. But God's grace, which was greater than all our sin, brings us eternal life instead.

(PRAYER)
Lord, help us to see that your punishment for sin is just and to sense something of the true heinousness of sin. Help us to appreciate more fully how much we were forgiven, and having been forgiven much, to love much. Amen

(VERSE)
Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

(INSPIRATION)
The Spirit produces in us all the Christian graces, which we would usually refer to as positive character traits. These graces indicate a changed heart that will naturally keep the Law of God. For love is the fulfilling of the law. And there is no valid law against these virtues or any actions that flow out of them.

(PRAYER)
Work in us, O Spirit of God, cultivating and producing a garden full of all of your fruit. We seek to be holy and live in love. We plead for you to work in us according to the Father's will to create in us the image of the Son. Let us seek then, O God, your appointed means of grace, your Word, and trust you to so work! Amen

(VERSE)
Isaiah 51:6 (KJV) Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

(INSPIRATION)
It is only in the Lord we may find the true and lasting escape from our earthly cages. The earth may melt and the sky turn to smoke, but yet our spirits and souls will rise on the day of reckoning, to find love and peace in God’s everlasting arms.

(PRAYER)
God Almighty my Father and Savior, hallowed be thy name! Help me to keep my eyes trained on Heaven, our eternal end, filled with peace and grace. For as this earth withers or burns, and my body decays, I know my spirit will still remain, seeking out Your light in paradise. Amen.

((DO WE LOOK FOR A SIGN))

(GOD TOLD US TO REPENT, AND WE SHOULDN'T BE WAITING FOR A SIGN)

(VERSE)
Luke 11:32 (KJV) The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

(INSPIRATION)
John the Baptist had appeared and called the people to repent. Now Jesus was calling the people to repent and go back to following the laws of Moses but they didn’t repent and even more than not repenting, they challenged Jesus and looked for a sign that he was really the one they were waiting for. The Jews were waiting for a Messiah, but they wanted a Messiah that would raise an army and challenge the Romans in battle and ultimately drive them out. They wanted a second David who would reunify Israel and bring it back to glory. Jesus wasn’t raising an army. His followers were fishermen and a tax collector. They didn’t seem like the beginnings of a strong army. The only apostle who looked good for a soldier was Simon the Zealot, but it would take more than one person to defeat the Romans. In fact, the Jewish leaders were getting worried that Jesus was upsetting the Roman leaders and were afraid that things might get worse for them. What do we look for? Do we look for a sign as well? Do we ever think, “If you’re real, then you will answer this prayer,” or “let me get that job I’m looking for?” Do we try to put God to the test? We might not realize it, but do we ever ask God to show us a sign that a loved one who died is with him? Do we listen to those who find pennies and claim that they are signs from God? Do we feel that God is not on our side if it rains on the day we planned a party? There are lots of ways we can be as blind as the Pharisees and scribes of Jesus’ time. He has told us to repent, and we shouldn’t be waiting for a sign that it’s time to begin; we should just do it.

(PRAYER)
Lord, you warned the people of your time just as Jonah did the people of Nineveh. May we listen to you and follow the example of the Ninevites and repent before it's too late. Amen

(VERSE)
Acts 13:2 (KJV) As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

(INSPIRATION)
It is in times of fasting and prayer – spending time with God – that we are exposed to his instructions for our lives and the people around us. We have all been called to be ministers of the Gospel, in different capacities. We have to spend as much time with God – through prayer, fasting, and in His word – so that we remain in the path He has set for us.

(PRAYER)
Dear God, I thank you for the mission you have called me to. Lord, I pray that as I spend time communing with you, may I be quick to hear your instructions and to obey them. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

((A SPIRIT OF JUSTICE))

(HOW DO WE USE THE GIFTS GOD HAS GIVEN US)

(VERSE)
1 Kings 3:8-10 (KJV) And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

(INSPIRATION)
Solomon takes over from his father, David, and is crowned king. Yahweh has appeared to Solomon in a dream and told him to ask for what he wanted. God is pleased with his answer and rewards him over and above his desires. Solomon has always been known for his wisdom and one of the Bible stories I heard as a child is the one of the two mothers and how the death of one of their children led to a trial that showed the depth of his wisdom. This is recorded in 1 Kings 3:16-27. Matthew, Mark and Luke all mention Jesus telling us to ask and that we will receive. Yet all of these evangelists also say the Jesus doesn’t promise that we will receive exactly what we ask for, as Jesus tells us, God will give us what we need. Solomon knew what he would need in order to govern wisely. Do we ask God for what we want, or for what we need? Parents need patience; spouses need a sense of commitment and fidelity; workers need a willingness to put in the effort required to do a good job. We all need something different depending on our circumstances. However, we all need a spirit of justice, compassion, mercy and forgiveness. We need to have God’s spirit within us to help us when making difficult decisions. It would be nice to win a lot of money in a lottery, but it would be sinful to waste money that is needed for the rent or for food. It is more productive to ask God to lead us to a job that would enable us to afford the necessities of life. As we shall see in a later passage, Solomon doesn’t always use his gifts as God intended. The question for us then is, “How do we use the gifts God has given us?”

(PRAYER)
Good and gracious God, you give us what we need. Help us to recognise those gifts and use them wisely. Amen
