GOSPEL-

“As the Father has sent me, even so I send you. Receive the Holy Spirit.”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John (John 20: 19-23)

TODAY’S REFLECTION

At Pentecost, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and Mary, giving birth to the church that courageously bears witness to the risen Lord, Jesus’ promise of sending an Advocate to guide his disciples is fulfilled.

The Holy Spirit is sent for a purpose… to remind the disciples of the teachings of Jesus and to instruct them further; to invest the apostles with the authority to forgive sins; to build up the faith and unity of the Christian community through various gifts of the spirit.

Today, there is a major renewal of interest in the Holy Spirit and spiritual charisms. Unfortunately, however, many ‘gifts of the spirit’ are restricted to spectacular, extraordinary and momentary phenomena which often become a cause of rivalry, conflict and division. Charisms that build up faith and unity in the Christian community, and lead to greater understanding, forgiveness and service, are true signs of the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Today on the feast of Pentecost marks the last day of the Easter season. Therefore as we remember the descending of the Holy Spirit on the disciples removing fear in them, let it also be a guide to us all the believers who have been afraid to publicly proclaim God's word to others. May we too be filled with the Holy Spirit
Today also marks the birthday of mother church.

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY OF THE

YEAR (C)

reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 17:11-19)

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Naaman the l***r shows huge appreciation for his healing, received through Elisha. One out of ten l***rs cleansed by Jesus shows appreciation and gets totally healed. Leprosy, viewed as punishment for sins committed against God, entails some form of separation of those afflicted to an isolated place to avoid defilement and contamination of others in the community. Sins, a form of leprosy, defiles us and makes us enemies of ourselves, from others and from God. It is a break-up of relationship. When we come back to God through reconciliation/confession, we are restored to love, friendship and wholeness and the divide caused by the separation is bridged. This should result in appreciation and thanksgiving. Every sin forgiven brings us close to our salvation; thus Jesus said to Zaccheus, “Today salvation has come to this house,” and to the thief on the cross, “Today you will be with me in paradise.”
