Hebrews 5:7 (KJV) Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death,

VERSE
Romans 15:30 (KJV) Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

INSPIRATION
Read the Bible enough and you’ll definitely come to find the importance placed on prayer, and also more specifically on prayers for others, be they those who do not yet know God, those close to you, or those in need. Everywhere, we should also pray for those on the front line doing God’s work. For missionaries, for our churches, for our ministers. These are the people who pray often also for us, and it is in each other we may find strength.

PRAYER
Lord my Father, hear my prayer for You. Hear my prayer for those who are doing Your work in your name, give them strength and courage, give them love and guidance. For I know they pray also for me Lord, and I wish to do the same for them. Give them grace in Jesus’ name, Amen.

VERSE
Philippians 1:29 (KJV) For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

INSPIRATION
Have you heard the phrase, "What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger?" Suffering and pain are things that humans naturally avoid. It is in our most basic instinct to avoid these things in order to survive. Pain and suffering in the name of Jesus Christ do make you stronger: to be more faithful, more loving, and to be saved. Longsuffering is an often mentioned virtue in the Bible. Suffering in the name of Jesus builds patience and helps you gain perspective. Pain and suffering help believes in Christ sympathize with what He went through for us. Withstand it on behalf of Christ and you will be stronger.

PRAYER
Gracious and beautiful God, my Abba Father, I ask for You in my hour of suffering. Sustain me with my power, to overcome any worldly pain that I may endure. I know that through You I can withstand all temptation and any suffering is a privilege in the name of Jesus Christ. I shall devote my life to Your service Lord, and it is in Your name I pray. Amen.

VERSE

Matthew 5:43-45 (KJV) Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

INSPIRATION

I imagine that you may have heard the famous quote, “Keep your friends close and enemies closer.” This quote has more nefarious intentions, but Jesus wants us to keep our enemies close for positive reasons: simply put, we can help them. It is our duty to love our enemies as ourselves in order to set an example, because an example was sent to earth for us in Jesus Christ. Honor His death by living as He did, sacrificing Himself to His enemies so that they too, could be forgiven.

PRAYER

O heavenly Father, You sent Your only son into the den of His enemies, sacrificing Him so that we could understand Your true love for us. This is the love I wish to spread to all people, my Lord, and I am sorry for being weak and selfish so often when I should help even my enemies, for they may need it the most. I thank you every moment of my life for sending Jesus as an example for me, and I shall do all that I can to follow His ways. I pray in honor of Jesus’ holy name. Amen.

DEVOTION

GOD'S FAVOURITISM

GOD CREATED EACH PERSON IN GOD'S IMAGE, NOT THE IMAGE OF EACH OTHER

VERSE

Acts 10:34-35 (KJV) Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

INSPIRATION

I believe that this passage from Acts should be read and meditated on at least once a year. It would be fine if we, too, did not show favoritism! The reality is quite different. Our society favors the wealthy, the beautiful, the famous and the powerful. It often victimizes the poor, the powerless and anyone who doesn’t fit their idea of “acceptable.” We are told just about every day to avoid and fear anyone who is not like “us.” The “us” can be anyone who has a different skin color, or speaks a different language, believes in a different religion, or comes from a different ethnic or cultural background. Would we appreciate a field of flowers each one was exactly the same? I doubt it. If all the flowers in the world were red, would we enjoy them as we do when we can mix in the yellow and the pink and all the rest? No species of animal or vegetable is identical to all the members of that species. It is this variety that makes the world beautiful. Why is it, then, that we expect all the members of the human family to look, speak and act the same? If we remember the story of the Tower of Babel, it was God who decided that there would be differences in speech! In Genesis, we learn that God created each person in God’s image, not the image of each other. If fact, identical twins or triplets are considered an anomaly not the norm! Who are we to challenge the will of God? Help us to look at each person as the face of the living God and not judge by the world’s standards of acceptable, but of God’s standard of righteousness.

PRAYER

Almighty Father, you created each one of us in your image. May we see you in all that we meet and may we allow everyone who sees us, to also see you. Amen

(VERSE)
Psalms 31:23-24 (KJV) O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

(INSPIRATION)
We can’t identify as children of God if we don’t love God. How do we love God? We express our love for God through our actions and the words we speak. When we obey His instructions, that is another way of showing we love Him. To be proud means to prefer our own guidance over God’s word. When we are proud, we are bound to err because we won’t be walking in the way God set out for us.

(PRAYER)
Dear God, I pray that in all I do, may You see the love I have for You. May my thoughts, actions, and the words I speak be a reflection of the love I have for You. Father, may You keep me from being proud. I pray that I never think that my thoughts are above Your own. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

((RESURRECTION SUNDAY))

(PALM SUNDAY IS KNOWN AND CELEBRATED AS THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRANCE OF JESUS CHRIST INTO JERUSALEM)

(VERSE)
John 12:12-13 (KJV) On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

(INSPIRATION)
Today most Christians begin Holy Week, the week leading up to the celebration of Our Lord’s Resurrection. This year our Orthodox brothers and sisters will celebrate one week later. This disparity has a long history. The Gregorian calendar uses the lunar calendar to fix the date for Easter while the Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar which uses the solar calendar. Until the seventh century, some of the western churches also used the Julian calendar. A synod of bishops from Western Europe gathered in Whitby, England to decide this issue, and they agreed to follow the Gregorian calendar which places Easter at the first Sunday following the vernal, or Spring, equinox. Although the term “Easter” is based on a pagan festival, the term was adopted by Christians and eventually replaced the more accurate name “Resurrection Sunday.” Regardless of the name, today, Palm Sunday is known and celebrated as the triumphal entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. The people greeted him with great joy, spreading their clothes on the ground and others spreading branches they had cut from the trees on the ground for him to pass over. It is important for us to remember that this same hoard will be crying out for his crucifixion by the end of the week. What happened? Were they just caught up in the excitement of the moment? Over the years, I have watched sports teams win and lose. When they are winners, everyone cheers for the players, the owners, the coaches – everyone involved with the team. When they come in at the bottom of the pile, these same “fans” are calling for the coaches to be fired, the owners to spend more money to get better players and for the players to get paid less. They are doing what the citizens of Jerusalem were doing on a much lower scale. The people of Jerusalem were excited to see this man who had performed miracles, whose preaching had caused a stir within the community. By the end of the week, he stood before them beaten and bloody, not looking like a hero at all. Is our faith influenced by how our lives are going and when it isn’t going well, do we turn our backs on Jesus? Something to think about this week.

(PRAYER)
Lord Jesus Christ, may we never forget all that you suffered for our sakes. May we always praise you and be faithful to you. May we never betray or abandon you. Amen
