Honouring Men of God

There are often questions about why one should honour a Man of God when they already have parents to honour. The truth is that comparing your parents to a Man of God is comparing two different categories of relationships.

It is similar to asking, "Between your wife and God, who would you choose?" They occupy different places in your life and should be treated as such.

Your parents are important because they are a gift from God and deserve honour. Your spiritual father is also important because God uses him to nurture, guide, and strengthen your spiritual life. While your parents represent your natural foundation, your spiritual leader contributes to your spiritual growth and development.

"Render therefore to all their due: honor to whom honor is due." — Romans 13:7

"The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor." — 1 Timothy 5:17

Both are important, but in different categories. God works through both the natural and the spiritual. Just as you cannot ignore the body and expect to function fully, neither can you neglect the spiritual guidance God has placed in your life.

Therefore, never feel that you must choose between honouring your parents and honouring a Man of God. Honour belongs to both, each according to their God-given role. Above all, honour God, who is the source of every good relationship and every authority He has established.

Last week's message was centered on storms and how a Christian can still face challenges while carrying Jesus.

Scripture Reference: Mark 4:35-41
"A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke Him and said to Him, 'Teacher, don't you care if we drown?' He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Quiet! Be still!' Then the wind died down and it was completely calm."* — Mark 4:37-39 (NIV)

Pastor Benson taught that Jesus was in the boat with the disciples, yet the storm still came. This reminds us that being a Christian does not exempt us from trials, difficulties, or even sickness. Storms are a part of life, but being overcome by them is not our portion.

One key lesson was not to limit God's functionality. Too often, we reduce God to the size of our understanding, yet our capacity is determined by our faith. When facing battles and challenges, faith expands what God can do through us and for us.

The presence of a storm does not mean the absence of God. In fact, it is often in the middle of the storm that His power is revealed the most.
No matter what storm you may be facing today, remember that if Jesus is in your boat, you have every reason to trust that you will make it to the other side.

Last week's message was centered on storms and how a Christian can still face challenges while carrying Jesus.
