Today's Devotion

Then the LORD told Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh. When he feels the force of my strong hand, he will let the people go. In fact, he will force them to leave his land!
-Exodus 6:1

If only we could wrap our brains around how great God is! He tells Moses at the start of this epic journey towards liberating the Israelite nation that his might will be on display. He promises that the people will be freed even though Moses on his own had absolutely no power to make this god-like ruler give up his free workforce. Moses took a massive step of faith by going before Pharaoh and telling him that his God was greater but his faith paid off because God kept to his word. We can trust when God tells us he is with us that he is able to see his plan to completion!

Joshua 1:9

"\nGod gave Joshua this command as he was at a point in his life where he was being called to take a huge step of faith. Moses had died and the Isrealites had not yet made it to the promised land. Joshua had spent many years as Moses’ assistant but now had to step up and lead the Isrealites into the land of Canaan. Joshua is commanded to boldness in God. This highlights Joshua’s weakness; there was a need for such a command, because even a mighty leader like Joshua needed such encouragement. We need God’s strength to take steps forward in our lives.

Know that God desires to show you His goodness in this present moment. Eternity starts when we accept Jesus into our lives. We don’t have to wait for the end of our lives to know that our God is good. Pray that He opens your eyes in new ways to the beauty He provides us everyday.

It tells us why we are here and who we take after. We were created to know God and we were made in his image. This gives us value. It gives our desires to create and inspire meaning. The story of the world matters because it tells you who you were made to be.

What is real love? So many of us spend so much of our lives searching for “real love.” We each long to find a steadfast love that puts others first. Jesus promises us this kind of love and gives us the power to love each other in this way. Look to Jesus to satisfy your desire for a genuine and never-ending love.

Is God our primary pursuit? Is his Word our lamp and guide? Do we seek his will and not our own? Those can be tough questions to answer because many of us really are just living for our own pleasure rather than following the way of the Lord. It can be tough to trust that his way is the best way but his beauty out matches anything else we can attain in this life. Seek him first!
