The Savings Ministry conducted a Graduation ceremony of 86 church facilitators in Chipata and Katete.

The facilitators have been working with the savings ministry for 3 years and have built capacity to run the Saving ministry in their respective churches and communities without the technical support from the ministry.

RCZ saving ministry conducted refresher training on Village banking from 26th to 28th July, 2022 in Chipata.
The training was attended by representatives from the different presbyteries of Eastern Province.

There are thousands of Savings Groups around the World. From all these experiences, we have learned that Saving Groups can have many benefits:

1. A Saving Group is a safe place to save money.
2.A Saving Group helps people be disciplined about saving money.
3. Saving group meetings are a time for building relationships and supporting one another.
4. Savings Groups that are a ministry of the church can help build relationships.

The Benefits of Saving Groups

Savings Groups can help people who have problems with traditional ways of saving.

* In a typical Saving Group, 15 to 25 people meet regularly to save money.

* Saving Group memebees create their own rules, such as whether or not members can save different amounts of money at each meeting. They also elect their own leaders.

* Savings Groups can give out loans to members from their combined savings. The group decides the service fee that is the best for them. Loans must be repaid before the end of the Savings Cycle, which is typically 12 months long.

* At the end of the Savings Cycle, the money saved by memebers along with money earned through service fees is distributed back to the Savings Group members so they can buy the important things they need.

Importance of Saving Groups

Saving Groups are a tool that has many different uses and benefits. Traditionally Saving Groups are known as a way to save money so members can buy important things they need.

Members of savings group have saved for school fees and uniforms, medicine for a sick family member, seeds to grow vegetables and tools for a home business.

Saving Groups that are a ministry of the Church like ours try to help individuals, families and communities to improve all of their relationships. This means our group will focus on more than just money. We will also focus on improving our relationships with God, ourselves and the rest of the world.

It is our desire to see to it that all the saving groups are successful and beneficial to the church and the members of the community.

Quality Assurance officer From Hope Zambia Mr. Zulu George and Operations Advisor HOPE INTERNATIONAL USA Mr. Nick Tozier visited Alinafe Savings Group of Kasamanda Congregation in Katete District.

The purpose of the visit was to access how community members are benefiting from the Saving groups.

The RCZ Savings Ministry yesterday handed over 36 Bicycles to Presbyteries in Eastern Province that have formed 3 or more Saving Groups as a way to appreciate them.

The presbyteries that benefited were Madzimoyo, Nsandzu and Kamoto. The handover of these Bicycles was done at Reformed Church in Zambia, Chipata Central Congregation.

Meet Mr. Timothy Tembo and Mrs. Eneless Musakah they both belong to Helpers savings group in Chilanga, Mupepe under Reformed Church in Zambia, Mount Olives Congregation.

Mr. Timothy Tembo graduated with a diploma in Early Childhood Education but unfortunately was unable to find formal employment. He and Mrs. ENELESS Musakah then decided join a Savings Group in 2019 at Mount Olives Congregation. In the same year they started a school with only 15 school School Children at Mr. Tembo’s house in Chilanga.

With the help of the Savings initiative they looked for a new place where they built a school and now have 60 Children enrolled at their school (Pinevalley Christian school).

The two aforementioned expressed their gratitude for the initiative of opening up Savings Groups to help people better their lives.

Last week we held a 3 day Church Facilitators Training in Chipata and 32 participants were trained as church Facilitators under savings ministry.
The participants were trained on how to form saving groups and lessons they should go out to teach after the training, these were chosen from RCZ congregations within Eastern Province.

We had Participants from Magwero,Nsadzu and Madzimoyo Presbytery.

The Reformed Church in Zambia and Its Partner HOPE-Zambia have been working together for 5 years in three provinces Lusaka, Eastern and Now Copperbelt province.

The church and its Partner HOPE-Zambia’s mission is to invest in the dreams of families in the world’s underserved communities so that they might be released from physical and spiritual poverty. These efforts are demonstrated through the offering of savings services.

Currently the savings ministry is operating in Eastern province and Copperbelt Province; 255 church Facilitators have been trained in HOPE Methodology (used by the savings group) through this methodology our church facilitators have managed to form (currently) 930 savings groups both within the church and the community with the membership of 18,065 and a Total Savings of 5,810,944.

The Savings Ministry Offers biblically based business training, mentoring, and coaching from a Christ-centered perspective.
