DANGERS OF FAMILIARITY
In Mark 6:3–5, the people said, “Is this not the carpenter?” Because they became too familiar with Jesus, they were offended—and He could do no mighty works there. Familiarity limited what they received.
1. Familiarity Reduces Honor
📖 Mark 6:4
“A prophet is not without honor except in his own country…”
📖 1 Thessalonians 5:12–13
“Recognize those who labor among you… esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake.”
When you work closely with the Lead Pastor and his wife, you see their humanity. That is normal. But access must never reduce honor.
Access is a privilege, not permission for casualness.
2. Familiarity Affects What You Receive
📖 Mark 6:5
“He could do no mighty work there…”
📖 Hebrews 13:17
“Obey those who rule over you… for they watch out for your souls.”
Where honor drops, reception drops. Spiritual flow follows honor.
3. Familiarity Breeds Casual Speech
📖 Ephesians 4:29
“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth…”
📖 Ecclesiastes 10:20
“Do not curse the king, even in your thought…”
Be careful of jokes, comments, or private attitudes that slowly erode reverence. What you casually criticize, you disconnect from spiritually.
4. Familiarity Weakens Spiritual Covering
📖 Galatians 6:6
“Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.”
📖 1 Timothy 5:17
“Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor.”
The Lead Pastor and his wife carry spiritual weight and responsibility. Instead of analyzing them, pray for them. Instead of scrutinizing, support them.
*Final Charge to Church Workers*
Let us:
*Maintain honor publicly and privately
*Guard our speech
*Pray consistently for our leaders
*Serve with humility
*What you honor, you benefit from.
*What you treat as common, you reduce in your own life.
