VERSE
Romans 12:1 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

INSPIRATION
What is a sacrifice? It is easy perhaps in our own lives to think of it as an act of limiting ones own freedoms for someone else, or otherwise some common good. Yet through Christ, through his teachings and ultimately upon the cross, we were shown a different interpretation of sacrifice –as rather an act of love, of generosity. Living with this example, it is up to us to offer our own bodies up to the Lord as a sacrifice, not in order to simply receive his love, but also to give -and give boundlessly- ones own in return.

PRAYER
Lord Almighty, thank you for the path you have shown me through your only begotten Son. Through this gift, you have shown me the purity and light of salvation. Teach me Lord how to embody this sacrifice, to share not only with all mankind, but also to offer up my own body to thee, O Lord, and bestow my love as an everlasting gift to you, my Heavenly Father. Amen.

VERSE
Colossians 1:9 (KJV) For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

INSPIRATION
Praying for oneself is easy. Ones daily prayers to God or in an hour of need are common occurrences. Yet, how many of us pray for others? Furthermore, how many pray for those outside our circle of friends and family, even for those who do not pray for us? This is where our challenge lies. How many of us, in following in Christ’s footsteps, have even prayed for our enemies, asking for their forgiveness, or that the Lord may find a way into their hearts? It is on these trails that we most define ourselves and the core of our faith, as one with the message and hope of salvation for all of mankind.

PRAYER
Lord, make me channel of Your peace and a vessel of good hope. Heed my prayers, not only for my family and friends, but also those who do not yet know Your word and its truth. Show them mercy and compassion as You have done for me O Heavenly Father, as I continue to work in Your will, to spread Your message and wisdom. Amen.

VERSE

Judges 10:15 (KJV) And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.

INSPIRATION

Here is the repeated cry of Israel again and again in the Book of Judges. They would serve the LORD for a time, depart from him to go after idols, then judgment would fall on them, then they would cry out to the LORD for help, and he would raise up a judge to deliver them. This cycle can mirror our struggles in the Christian life as well, but far better when we simply consistently follow God.

PRAYER

O ever-present Helper of my soul, if I have sinned, I turn to you to forgive me and deliver me. There is no one else to whom I can turn for help, nor am I able to fight the good fight of faith alone. I confess and forsake my sins by your grace, leave me not to drift in my own direction. Amen

VERSE
Jeremiah 10:10 (KJV) But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.

INSPIRATION
What a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31), for those who do not know him as their Savior! When the day of his wrath shall come, he will arise to shake terribly the earth (Isaiah 2:21) and the nations shall not be able to endure his indignation. The Day of the LORD may seem long in coming, but it shall come at last, and what a fearful day that will be for many!

PRAYER
O Lord God, we pray for those that do not know You, that You will have mercy and that they will repent before it is too late. We pray for lost family members, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. We know that no one can endure Your wrath. May our loved ones run to Jesus Christ for refuge from that fearful day. Amen

VERSE

Romans 8:31-32 (KJV) What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

INSPIRATION

The Bible is filled with numerous moments of assurance for our lives. God loved us so much, and desired our salvation so much, that he gave up his Son so that we could be saved. This one act is enough to convince us that nothing can ever stand against us. We can do all things through Christ – so long as it is to the glory of God. We can face all kinds of rulers of darkness and principalities, boldly, because God is always with us and that will never change.

PRAYER

Dear God, I thank you that I find my confidence in you. Lord, time and time again you have given us every reason to trust in you and never doubt you. No dark power or force can ever prosper against us because we are backed you, the Almighty God. Father, I pray that if there is ever a time challenges try to overwhelm me, may I be reminded of this truth: that you are always with me and that will never change. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

(VERSE)
Galatians 5:16 (KJV) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

(INSPIRATION)
I would love to be on a beach eating a steak right now. I would love to fly in private jets and be a powerful leader. I would love to live forever and never be judged for my actions on earth. Wouldn’t you? These temptations are so difficult to resist, but so meaningless in the grand scheme of things: resist them, learn, spread love, and leave everything else to God.

(PRAYER)
To the one true God, I thank you for giving me the abilities to think, feel, and love. I will do all that I can to live by the Holy Spirit and let the Spirit flow through me and unto others. I pray that You aid me in times when I am weak, giving into the secular pleasures that this world offers. Through faithful practice and with Your love, I know that all things are possible, my Lord. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

((IT'S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR ACTIONS))

(TODAY IS CALLED "SPY WEDNESDAY" FOR OBVIOUS REASONS)

(VERSE)
Matthew 26:14-16 (KJV) Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

(INSPIRATION)
Today is called “Spy Wednesday” for obvious reasons. We will never really know why Judas betrayed Jesus. We know he did it for money, but was money enough to explain betraying a close friend and companion? We know that he regretted what he did, but instead of asking for forgiveness, he went out and hanged himself after giving back the money. Perhaps he wasn’t fully aware of what the chief priests had planned. Is this a good enough reason to justify his actions? I know that there have been times in my life that I haven’t been aware of the consequences of my decisions. Sometimes the damage caused was minor and other times the unseen consequences caused damage that could not be rectified. We all make choices every day and some of them may result in damage to ourselves or others. The person who had that extra drink before driving didn’t know that his delayed reactions would cost a mother her life. The choice to spread rumors could cost an employee her job. There are so many opportunities to get ourselves into trouble and they usually begin with thinking about what we want, and not what is good for someone else. There’s a saying, “Act in haste; repent at leisure.” This is what happens when we speak or act before we think. When these things happen, we are also betraying Jesus. We may not be handing him over to the chief priests to be killed, but our sins are a part of the burden that Jesus bore on the cross. May we examine our hearts and ask forgiveness for the times our thoughtless actions have caused pain to others. As Jesus forgave us, let us also be willing to forgive those who have caused us pain.

(PRAYER)
Loving Father, you would have forgiven even Judas Iscariot if he had only asked. Forgive us for the times when we have sinned against you and others. Amen

((JESUS CHRIST, THE MESSIAH))

(THE APOSTLES WERE EXCITED TO BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST WAS THE MESSIAH)

(VERSE)
John 8:32-34 (KJV) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bo***ge to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

(INSPIRATION)
This is just the opposite of what Jesus told his apostles at the Last Supper. He also told them that he would be with them a little while longer, but that he was going to prepare a place for them so that where he was, they also would be. So, what was the difference between these two groups? The chief priests and the Pharisees refused to believe in him and plotted against him, but the apostles had remained faithful for the three years they had followed him in spite of challenges from others. Yes, they had seen the signs and wonders that he had performed, but so had the Pharisees. The Pharisees were jealous that the people were beginning to think of Jesus as the Messiah. The apostles were excited to believe that Jesus was the Messiah. We are given the opportunity to know of Jesus and the wonders and signs that he had performed during his life on earth. We also have heard of the wonders that have been performed in our lifetime in Jesus’ name through the power of prayer. Why it is that some will choose not to believe and some will? We can’t answer for others, only for ourselves. We can answer as to why we believe. Some of those to whom I’ve spoken, say they don’t believe in Jesus and they don’t believe in a god because of all the evil in the world, especially the evil that has been done in the name of God. There are also those who don’t believe in an afterlife so don’t find belief in any god important. There are others who reject Jesus for the same reasons as the chief priests and the Pharisees; because it can lead people to fight for justice when they want to be the powerful voice that is listened to. We need to choose. Do we want this passage to apply to us, or do we want Jesus to be preparing a place for us among the apostles and the saints?

(PRAYER)
Good and gracious God, you do so much for us and give us so many chances to turn our hearts towards you and your Son, Jesus Christ. Please give us the graces we need to keep our eyes on you and your promise. Amen

((ENVY))

(MAY WE FEEL ONLY GRATITUDE THAT GOD LOVES US AS WE ARE, AND LEARN TO LOVE OUR SELVES AS WELL)

(VERSE)
Genesis 37:3-4 (KJV) Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.
And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.

(INSPIRATION)
Here again we have a case of envy and a story we know well. Joseph’s brothers hated him so much that they wanted to kill him. It was only because Benjamin convinced them not to, but to sell him into slavery, that his life was spared. We know how that ended as well. God used Joseph in the end to help his family come to Egypt and avoid starvation during the drought that hit the Promise Land. Most people do not allow their envy to end in murder, but it can end in the killing of a person’s reputation or the loss of a job because of lies. Property has been vandalized or destroyed out of envy. We keep hearing over and over again in the Bible that those who have much are not more loved by God but rather are held more responsible for sharing what they have so that those without may have what they need. In my experience, it is those who have less that are more generous and willing to share the little they have. When my sister and I were working with a group in Tanzania, one of the men was so grateful for what the group was doing in helping with education and health care that he slaughtered one of his goats so that we could have a good lunch. The generosity of the people was amazing. It was the same in Haiti with people who had suffered the effects of earthquakes and hurricanes, but still were willing to share what they had. Perhaps we need to examine our priorities and not judge ourselves in relation to others, or feel that we are somehow less if we don’t have as much as someone else. May we feel only gratitude that you love us as we are, and learn to love ourselves as well.

(PRAYER)
Loving God, you made the sale of Joseph into slavery become the salvation of his family. You have freed us from the slavery of sin and death through your Son, Jesus Christ and his sacrifice. Help us to focus on you and the gifts you have given us and not be envious of others. Amen

((DO NOT TAKE VENGEANCE))

(HATRED, A DESIRE FOR VENGEANCE AND BEARING GRUDGES DOESN'T HURT THE PERSON OUR FEELINGS ARE DIRECTED AT, THEY HURT US)

(VERSE)
Leviticus 19:17-18 (KJV) Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

(INSPIRATION)
Let’s look at this passage. Verse 18 is the center of the Torah. Leviticus is the third book of the Bible and verse 18 is the center verse. It is so well known that we sometimes don’t think about its implications. Today, I’d like to concentrate on the verses that precede it. Don’t carry hatred in your heart. That can be more difficult than it sounds. When we have been badly hurt by someone, it can be tempting to carry the hatred that might rise up in us. This is especially true if a loved one has been killed or injured either in an accident caused by drinking and driving, or murdered. Sometimes there is no resolution to the cause of our pain and this makes it even more difficult to move on and let go. This also applies to the prohibition against vengeance. It is so tempting! When something terrible happens we want to strike back! Even though the death penalty has been shown to not be a deterrent to crime and most civilized countries have stopped using it, whenever a murder has occurred, there are cries for the perpetrator to be executed. Whatever happened to the phrase, “Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord?” We might claim that we want justice, but what we really want is revenge. In order to rid ourselves of hatred and not seek vengeance, nor bear a grudge, we need to forgive. This is not easy and we can’t do it without God’s help. This does not mean we need to forget or have good feelings about someone who has committed a crime or has caused us pain, it means that we need to let go of the bad feelings so that we can move on. Hatred, a desire for vengeance and bearing grudges doesn’t hurt the person our feelings are directed at, they hurt us. God doesn’t want this. God wants us to move on with our lives in a positive way. If we ask, God will show us the way.

(PRAYER)
Oh Lord, it is not easy to forgive those who have hurt us or damaged the community in some way. Help us to remove hatred from our hearts and minds so that we can focus our attention on yol. Amen

(VERSE)
Titus 2:13-14 (KJV) Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

(INSPIRATION)
When it is said that we, Christians, are temporary residents on this earth, it is because we are waiting for a greater glory to come – the return of Jesus Christ. Because of the heavenly assurance we have, we shouldn’t fear this day. We should rejoice because Christ is coming for all of us, ushering in the glory spoken of in the Epistles. On that day, we will be reunited with fellow believers who have passed on; and we will take on our immortal bodies.

(PRAYER)
Dear God, I rejoice when I think of what is to come. I do not fear the return of Your son, Jesus Christ, but I eagerly look forward to the day because I know of what a glorious time this will be. I pray that as I wait, may I remain patient and focused on doing the work You have commissioned me to do, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
