Time to Fix the RCV Awards

As a nation and gospel artists, we owe a debt of gratitude to Radio Christian Voice (RCV), one of Zambia's largest and most enduring radio stations. Since its inception in 1994, RCV has played a pivotal role in shaping the country's music industry, launching the careers of numerous artists, and touching countless lives.

Christian Voice has been the hope and a home to all of us Christian singers. It has been a place where upcoming and established artists find real promotion.

However, this makes it even more imperative that the station's awards are fair, transparent, and merit-based.

It's disheartening to see awards being seem to validate friendships rather than excellence. Awarding songs and individuals based on personal relationships rather than talent, imapact and hard work undermines the integrity of the music industry.

Those running the RCV awards should consider renaming them if they can't uphold the standards expected of a respected institution like RCV.

As a watchman of this industry, I am m compelled to speak out against this trend. The likes of Chilu, with songs like "Nalekumwafye" being reduced to a Copperbelt musician, is a travesty.

What about the contributions of Francis, with great songs like Luse, and Yelele Mama? Mr. and Mrs. Moses Chibesa's "Likalamba Ishina Lwenu" is a classic piece. Colin's the Machine's "Afisobolola", Vusi Fortune's "Chilemba", Stanslous Bwalya's "Yaweh Nimwefye Mweka", and Toliwe Nyerenda's "Umulopa" Ruben Kabwe "Yaweh Mwende".. are just a few examples of the incredible music that deserves recognition.

Let's not forget the countless others who've been blessed by RCV's platform. It's time for the RCV awards to reflect the values of fairness, transparency, and merit. We urge RCV to take our concerns seriously and make necessary adjustments to ensure that the awards process is above board.

Let's work together to build a music industry that values excellence, fairness, and accountability. We owe it to ourselves, our artists, and the future of Zambian music.
