Building Promotions & The Need for Enhanced Urban Evangelism

Last evening I was brought to the attention of a poster for a certain church that has invited two cabinet ministers and two members of parliament to its building promotion alongside a powerful speaker and a friend of mine.

In the first place I appreciate the fact that our churches ought to be built to moderate modern standards. I also appreciate the fact that most of our Churches budgets are faithfully supported by very few church members from the many numbers we boast of.

The real issue i see in these invitations to guest of honors we have now left the burden of building our churches exposes 3 critical issues for me;

1. We have a system that after centrally collecting funds, does not have a robust plan on how to support church building projects.

2. Our gospel or crusades only sell well among the poor. We baptize huge numbers but the direct translation to our income is not a positive reflection. Most of our churches are still supported by very few of us who faithfully pay our tithes and offerings.

3. There is an urgent need for us to actively witness to influential people and the rich and real heavy baptisms too. Clearly this class of people is neglected in our times. Even the way we plan our evangelistic efforts, its all targeted at the poor. The comfortable and the rich are not attracted to our meetings. But make no mistake, the gospel in its simplicity is very attractive as it were. It is how we package it.

We have come to a time where everyone wants Makebi Zulu, HH, Nawa Nawa, and whoever we think have money to make significant contributions for our buildings. AM sure very soon we will set out on international targets. We shall just see South African President as guest of honor kuma buiding promo.

But will our Churches ever really grow without building promotions with guest of honors?

As we do Local Church elections,note the following AYM policy amendments:

1. The position of Adventist Youth Leader(AY Leader)is nolonger there.

2. The position of AYM Sponsor changes to AYM Advisor.So we don't have Sponsors,but Advisors.

3. Public Campus Ministry(PCM) is now under the Adventist Youth Ministries.It's one of the 5 levels of Adventist Youth Ministries(AYM).

4. Master Guide and SYL are at par.Both are leadership training courses.

5. Early Birds and Little Lambs are the newest classes in the Adventurer Ministry.This simply means that the age group for the Adventurer Ministry is 4years to 9 years.

6. Each local church must have a functional Adventist Youth Ministries Committee(AYM Committee).All the top 5 ministries leaders plus other prescribed Departmental Leaders are members of this committee.The young adults leader may chair the AYM Committee.

7. The wording in the AYM Motto & AYM Mission Statement are slightly adjusted.Kindly familiarise yourself with the few wording adjustments.

8. The age group of the Adventist Youth Ministries is 4years to 30 years.

9. The official name of our department is "Adventist Youth Ministries"(AYM).

10. Club Ministry Training(CMT)replaced Pathfinder Leadership Award(PLA)& Advanced Pathfinder Leadership Award(APLA).Note that there is no Investiture in CMT.Candidates receive awards.

11. Note that the Adventurer Director,Pathfinder Director,Ambassador Leader,Young Adults Leader & Public Campus Ministry Leader/Cordinator are members of both the Adventist Youth Ministries Committee(AMC) and the Local Church Board.Note that these 5 Ministries leaders are at par.Each one has their own Ministry.

12. There is no position at the Local Church called,"AYM Secretary".Each ministry has it's own secretary(in most cases one of the Deputy Directors serves as Ministry Secretary/ Treasurer).
However,during the Adventist Youth Ministries Committee,one of the Ministry Leaders may serve as Chairperson and the other one may serve
