Sermon Title: The Covenant God Made With Himself
Main Text: Genesis 1:26
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…”
Beloved, when God created man in Genesis 1:26, He was not creating flesh—He was creating Spirit. The Bible says, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” Now if we are to understand this, we must first understand the nature of God.
According to John 4:24, God is Spirit. That means the image and likeness of God is not physical—it is spiritual. So when God created man, He created him as a spirit being, carrying divine nature, divine authority, and divine capacity.
Man was first spirit before he became flesh.
In Genesis 2:7, the Bible says, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” This means the body was only a container—but the real man was the spirit that came from God.
So hear this prophetically:
You are not a body trying to find God—you are a spirit that came from God!
The body was introduced later for earthly expression, but man’s original identity was spiritual. That is why even before Eve appeared physically, she already existed within Adam. When Adam went into a deep sleep, God did not create something new—He revealed what was already inside.
This shows us a mystery: 1 Timothy 3:16
Everything God will ever bring out of your life is already within you!
Now, God is neither male nor female—He is Spirit. But He chose to express multiplication through the system of male and female. Eve coming from Adam’s rib was not just about companionship—it was about divine replication.
God was multiplying Himself through man.
But then came the fall.
When Adam and Eve sinned, they did not just commit an act—they experienced a loss of spiritual consciousness. The connection between man and God was disrupted. The spirit man that was alive to God became dormant, and man became dominated by the flesh.
That is why the power, authority, and dominion that God had given man seemed lost.
But hear this:
The fall of man was not the end of man.
God already had a plan.
And this is where the mystery deepens…
God could not find a man qualified to restore man. So what did He do?
He made a covenant—with Himself.
Because there was no one higher to swear by, God swore by Himself. This was not just a promise—it was a divine commitment to restore what was lost in Eden.
Jesus was not an afterthought—He was the fulfillment of that covenant.
He came as the second Adam—not just to forgive sin, but to restore the spirit man. To bring man back into the original image and likeness of God.
So through Christ, we are not just saved—we are restored.
Restored to dominion.
Restored to identity.
Restored to spiritual authority.
This is why being born again is not religion—it is the reawakening of your spirit nature.
You are returning to what you were before the fall!
And I declare prophetically:
Every dormant spiritual dimension in your life is coming alive again!
Every lost authority is being restored!
You are stepping back into the fullness of your original design!
