If God chose only well-rounded people with no character flaws, some of the credit would inevitably go to the people and not to the Lord.
By choosing flawed people with a bad past, a shaky present, and an uncertain future, God alone gets the glory when they accomplish amazing things by his power.

EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT: UNDERSTANDING THE TIMES AND SEASONS.
BY REV. M. ZULU
Time to God is very important. This is why Jesus severally spoke about time that even His birth was timed. As we are running with our Theme embedded in discipleship, discipleship in itself is a call that has time fixed to it. More often, we are inclined to think that we have time when in actuality, we don’t!
1ST CHRONICLES 12:32
The Sons of Issachar here understood the dispensation of time. Here is the thing, if you do not know what time it is, you will not know what to do. Realistically, most of us be like “2024 is my year!” But then, what are you doing in 2023? Life is measured by time. Therefore, time wasted is life wasted. Time without purpose is life without meaning.
According to God’s design, our brief existence on earth is measured by time. He did not create time for Himself (for time exists in Him as He is eternal). Instead, he created time for you and I and for purpose to be fulfilled (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
Everything God created is there for a season and for a purpose. Thus, there is a timeframe attached to purpose. Understand this, there is an allotted time to do something. Once that time passes, that is it. This then means that, we don’t have time to waste. Time doesn’t wait until you discover your purpose. Maximize your season.
God measures time differently from us. He measures time in terms of fulfilled purpose. Throughout the Bible, God has never been interested in how long someone has lived, but how they lived their lives. He will not ask how long you lived but how you lived with the life He gave you. Your life is not measured by duration but by donation. What are you donating to your generation?
Consider this: If you are above 33 years, you’re practically older than Jesus 🙂 But what have you done for this generation?
To live effectively, you must know what your purpose is and utilize it. Ask yourself this:
1. Who am I? This resonates with identity.
2. Where am I from? This has nothing to do with your earthly heritage but spiritual heritage. Let God be your source. He did not create you to come and waste time. Know the demands that comes from your source (God). He will sustain you to step out and challenge certain things.
3. Why am I here? This question answers for your purpose. You are not in that place by mistake.
4. What can I do? Understand your potential for you to manage time. If you do not know what to do, people will tell you what to do and you will not be productive. If God has not wired you to do something, don’t do it. This question seeks to answer for your abilities. This is the genesis of all problems (spending time on useless things that have no value).
5. Where am I Going? This has to do with hope. There is life beyond today (whether alive or dead, you are going somewhere). Know what to do with your time. At some point, you will stand and account for it. What are you doing to secure your tomorrow?
Take a moment and reflect on how you are living your life. Are you using time wisely? Don’t squander, don’t waste the ability that God has given you. Step out and live your purpose!
Amen.

TOPIC: The Prayer Life of a Christian Part1

TEXT:Colossians 4:1-8

INTRODUCTION

F.B. Meyer said, "The great tragedy of life is not unanswered prayer, but un-offered prayer."

Prayer is, for the most part, an untapped resource, an unexplored continent where untold treasure remains to be unearthed. It is talked about more than anything else , and practiced less than anything else. And yet, for the believer it remains one of the greatest gift our Lord has given us outside of salvation.

Paul was somebody who understood prayer and its power. Prayer was a part of Paul's life, and he took it for granted that it would be a part of the life of every Christian. You cannot really be a good Christian and not pray, just like you cannot have a good marriage if you don't talk to your wife. You can be a Christian and not pray, just like you can be married and not talk to your wife. But in both circumstances you will be miserable. Prayer is the pipeline of communication between God and His people, between God and those who love Him.

I. Pray with persistence
Paul begins by saying,

"Devote yourselves to prayer," (NASB) or "Continue earnestly in prayer," (NKJV). In the original language it says, "continue steadfastly in prayer." The word translated, "continue steadfastly," is one word in the original language. It can be translated, "persist in, adhere firmly to, or remain devoted to or to give unremitting care to." It caries with it the idea of dedication. Of the ten times it is used in the New Testament four of them have to do with being devoted to prayer. It is a very powerful word and in this verse is given as an imperative, or a command. In other words, persistence in prayer is not an option for the Christian it is an order from the Lord Himself.

Two of the most instructive parables Jesus ever told on prayer, one in Luke 18 and the other in Luke 11, both have to do with being persistent and not giving up in prayer.

Luke 18:1 says, "Now He was telling them a parable to show them that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart."
Luke 11:9 is where we find the promise that says, "ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you." Each of those verbs are in the present tense, active voice and could be translated, "keep on asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking." Jesus does not want us to give up in prayer, He instructs us to be persistent.
Now there is a difference between a persistent prayer and a long prayer. A person who is persistent in prayer does not necessarily have to pray for a long time. Persistence means not giving up.

Some people give up easily , they quit because they say they don't feel like praying, the joy is gone, the feeling is gone. But we are not to live by our feelings but to live by the commandments of our Lord who tells us to pray without ceasing.

George Muller, known as one of the greatest prayer warriors of all times had this to say about persistence in prayer"

"It is a common temptation of Satan to make us give up the reading of the Word and prayer when our enjoyment is gone; as if it were of no use to read the scriptures when we do not enjoy them, and as if it were no use to pray when we have no spirit of prayer. The truth is that, in order to enjoy the Word, we ought to continue to read it, and the way to obtain a spirit of prayer is to continue praying. The less we read the Word of God, the less we desire to read it, and the less we pray, the less we desire to pray."
Be persistent in prayer.

II. Pray with passion

If you are persistent in something, it stands to reason that you are to be passionate about it. In fact, Paul says we should be vigilant or be watchful; it is the opposite of slothfulness.

This describes passionate prayer.

Jesus was passionate about His prayer life, it was something He was always doing.

How much prayer meant to Jesus! It was not only his regular habit, but his resort in every emergency, however slight or serious.
When perplexed he prayed.
When hard pressed by work he prayed.
When hungry for fellowship he found it in prayer.
He chose his associates and received his messages upon his knees.
If tempted, he prayed.
If criticized, he prayed.
If fatigued in body or wearied in spirit, he had recourse to his one unfailing habit of prayer.

Prayer brought him unmeasured power at the beginning, and kept the flow unbroken and undiminished. There was no emergency, no difficulty, no necessity, no temptation that would not yield to prayer.
And every time we see Jesus praying He was praying with passion.

In Luke 3:1 at His Baptism - while He was praying the heaven was opened.
-Passionate prayer opens Heaven.
In Luke 6:12 before He called His disciples - He spent the whole night in prayer.
-Passionate prayer gives direction.
In Luke 9:29 at His transfiguration - And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming. -Passionate prayer enables us to experience the glory of the Father.
In John 17 in His high priestly prayer - -Passionate prayer impacts the lives of others.
In Matthew 26:39 in the Garden of Gethsemane - It is only through passionate prayer that we can pour out our hearts to God.
In Luke 23:24 as He hung on the cross - a life that is lived in -passionate prayer will enable us to maintain that spirit, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
Jesus always prayed with passion, because He knew Who it was He was talking to and He knew that prayer to the Father is a powerful thing and not something to take lightly and glibly.

Prayer from the heart, that's what passionate prayer is, it is prayer from the heart not just from the head.

James 5:16 says, "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man can accomplishes much.

What is the church?

(Article in response to the t shirt used for illustration purposes)

The church is the body of Christ, of which He is the head. Ephesians 1:22–23 says, “And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” The body of Christ is made up of all believers in Jesus Christ from the day of Pentecost (Acts 2) until Christ’s return. Biblically, we may regard the church in two ways, as the universal church or as the local church.

The universal church consists of everyone, everywhere, who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. “For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink” (1 Corinthians 12:13). This verse says that anyone who believes is part of the body of Christ and has received the Spirit of Christ as evidence. All those who have received salvation through faith in Jesus Christ comprise the universal church.

The local church is described in Galatians 1:1–2: “Paul, an apostle . . . and all the brothers with me, to the churches in Galatia.” Here we see that in the province of Galatia there were many churches—they had a localized ministry and were scattered throughout the province. They were local churches. A Baptist church, a Lutheran church, an E-Free church, etc., is not the church, as in the universal church; rather, it is a local church, a local body of believers. The universal church is comprised of everyone who belongs to Christ. Members of the universal church should seek fellowship and edification in a local church.

In summary, the church is not a building or a denomination. According to the Bible, the church is the body of Christ—all those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation (John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 12:13). Local churches are gatherings of people who claim the name of Christ. Members of a local church may or may not be members of the universal church, depending on the genuineness of their faith. The local church is where believers can fully apply the “body” principles of 1 Corinthians chapter 12—encouraging, teaching, and building one another up in the knowledge and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, You cant leave the church, thats deception of the highest order.(GQ)

TOPIC: JESUS OUR ANCHOR
THEME: The Significance of our Faith

TEXT: 1 Peter 1:3-12

INTRODUCTION
Unarguably, it was not easy to be a Christian in the 1st Century. It is at that time that people were persecuted because of their faith. Even though they logned for fellowship, Christians were at risk because of the Gospel. The question today is, could we have survived then with our attitude towards the Gospel now?

But even even though Christian faced a lot of fatal challenges then, we too have our own giants and storms today. There are so many things that threaten our Faith in this dispensation.

Undoubtedly, faith throughout the Bible has been noted as an anchor through the storms of our lives. Peter here is sharing with us on how we can live an authentic Christ-centered faith life in the time of challenges. So let's consider the following:

* The timeless faith
This implies that faith is everlasting and that everyone has it (even non-believers - can be in our intellectual or physical abilities. But the bottom line here is that we all have faith!) But where is your faith anchored? Storms are inevitable. But where will your hope lie?

Paul here commends to us that:

(i) Faith in Christ is imperishable. How many times have we secured our precious items and still find them harmed or worse off, stollen? So many economies have been built and destroyed. Mighty men have come and gone. Yet, only the kingdom of God has remained constant. Therefore, our Faith must be set it Heaven and not things below.

Even when its necesary to build a good life on earth, there is coming a time when it will end. They are all but temporal to even hold our Faith (Your job will not matter, nor will your car, your house, your business. What will matter is: do you have Jesus?). Only Jesus can hold you in difficult times. Don't be materialistic. Set your faith in Heaven and beyond the worldly!

(ii) Our Faith is uncorrupted.
Often times we have heard: Absolute power corrupts absolutely. When people have more power, it corrupts them. History tells of the many leaders who started rightly but ended poorly. All of a sudden, pride and self righteousness got in the way. The moral here is simple: you can't put trust in a man. People get tired, they get bored and they change. Never put your faith in man because time to time, he gets corrupted. Our Faith in Christ can never be corrupted. Why? Because He knows no sin and because of this perfection, be assured that Jesus will always be there for you. Verily Verily, what can separate us from the Love of God? Let Him hold you!

(iii) Our Faith is unfading
People with a fading syndrome always jump on the latest trends or ideas. They always want something new. This is tiring because culture and society are dynamic and constantly changing. This however is not the same for our Faith. It is never changing.

Cohabitation may be normal now. Homosexuality may be a prevailing culture. But with our Faith, what was wrong then has not changed to be right now. It is still wrong today, tomorrow and foreverand technology will never be an excuse to compromise. Faith in Christ is unfading. This is why today people still get healed, saved and delivered just as it happened thousands of years back.

Jesus is calling us to a place where Our Faith stands on His never changingness. Let Him be your anchor and foundation of your Faith.

Blessed Week...
