Sunday, December 21 2025.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Theme: Jesus, the God with us.

First Reading:

“Behold, a virgin shall conceive. ”

A reading from the Book of Isaiah (Isaiah 7:10-14)

Responsorial psalm:
(Psalm 24:1-2.3-4ab.5-6 (R. Cf. 7c.10c)
R/. Let the Lord enter; he is the king of glory.

Second Reading:

"Jesus Christ, descended from David, is the Son of God."

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (Romans 1: 1-7)

Gospel Reading:

"Jesus was born of Mary who was betrothed to Joseph, the son of David."

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (Matthew 1:18-24)

All three readings are centred on Isaiah's prophecy about the birth of the Son of the Virgin (First reading). The second reading shows the happiness and joy of Paul at being able to announce this Good News to all. This prophecy is taken up by Mathew in the Gospel to tell us that it is fully accomplished in Jesus. He is the Truth, "God with Us."

Let's pray

Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may His Passion and Cross be brought to glory of his Resurrection. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

Blessed Sunday.

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT (GAUDETE)

Theme of the Sunday: THE SIGNS OF THE TRUE MESSIAH.

FIRST READING

“God himself will come and save you.”

A reading from the Book of Isaiah (Isaiah 35:1-6a.10)

RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Ps 146:6c-7.8-9a.9bc—10 (R. Cf. 1s 35:4)

R/. Come, Lord, and save us.

Or:

Alleluia.

SECOND READING-:

“Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.”

A reading front the Letter of Saint James, James 5:7-10

Gospel Acclamation (Luke 4:18)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; he has sent me to preach good news to the poor.

GOSPEL

“Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another? ”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (Matthew 11:2-11)

The Gospel tells us that the Baptist doubted that Jesus was the true Messiah. He expected a judge who would be hard on sinners; he saw instead one who tried to save the lost. How can we convince people that the Messiah is among us? Are liturgies, processions and long prayers sufficient? Christ’s disciples must be signs of what their master did: they must help others. The first and second readings tell us that if we want to succeed in being such witnesses, we must not allow ourselves to be discouraged, even when confronted by situations that seem desperate.

Let's pray

O God, who see how your people faithfully await the feast of the Lord’s Nativity, enable us, we pray, to attain the joys of so great a salvation and to celebrate them always with solemn worship and glad rejoicing. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

R/. In his days shall justice flourish, and great peace forever.

SECOND READING

Christ saves all men.

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans, Romans 15:4-9

Gospel Acclamation (Luke 3:4.6)

Alleluia.
Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight; all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

Alleluia.

GOSPEL

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (Matthew 3: 1-12)

Though the Lord came two thousand years ago, he has not yet come to many places or into many situations. In today’s Gospel the Baptist tells us what we should do to prepare his way. We should ask ourselves what separates us from our neighbours, what barriers hinder the harmony that should exist in our families, our communities and our nation. The second reading explains what we must foster as members of the Christian community so that the Lord may come. The first reading describes the new world that has already dawned.

As we steadily March towards the birth of Christ, the first reading foretells his mission. He will prepare us for a world where all will live in truth, peace and justice. The Gospel warns us to be very careful of our actions because in the long run each person will reap what he sows. The second reading points out that to reap positive fruits we must welcome one another without discrimination, as Christ welcomes us. Consequently, while we are in this imperfect world, let us be steadfast in always doing the right thing by giving true service to one another, confident that at the end we shall merit the house of the Lord where justice and peace shall reign.

Wishing you a blessed Sunday.

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT (A)

Theme of the Sunday: BE VIGILANT!

FIRST READING

The Lord will gather all nations in the eternal peace of the Kingdom of God.
A reading from the Book of Isaiah (Isaiah 2:1-5)

RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Psalm 122:1-2.4-5.5-7.8-9)
R/. We shall go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

SECOND READING

“Salvation is nearer to us now.
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (Romans 13:11-14a)

Gospel Acclamation (Psalm 55:5)
Alleluia.
Let us see, O Lord, your mercy, and grant us your salvation.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL

Watch therefore, you must be ready.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (Matthew 24:37-44)

All three readings for this Sunday focus on vigilance, not as an agonising wait for the Lord Judge at the end of our lives, but as awareness to the presence of the Lord today.
The first reading tells us of the new world that will begin with the coming of the Lord. The Gospel urges us to be vigilant so that we may welcome him at his “advent.”
The second reading invites us to open our eyes to discern the signs of the new day which has already dawned.

Wishing you a blessed Sunday.

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF MONGU
MESSAGE TO THE YOUTH – AGM 2025

The Diocese extends warm greetings to all young people gathered for the Annual General Meeting. As leaders in your parishes and across the diocese, you are encouraged to keep your focus on Christ so that your lives and service remain meaningful. Passing through the Holy Door during this Jubilee Year is a moment of grace, renewal and spiritual growth.

This year’s theme invites every young person to journey as a Pilgrim of Hope. Along this journey you may have faced challenges—at home, school, in your search for employment, or through peer pressure. Yet you have also experienced joy in friendship, faith, and the achievements made in your leadership roles. These moments form part of your path, and you are reminded that you do not walk alone.

The message draws inspiration from the words of Pope Leo XIV during the canonization of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati and St. Carlo Acutis—young people who said “yes” to God and lived their faith with courage, joy, and dedication. Their lives show that holiness is possible at any age.

The youth of Mongu Diocese are encouraged to reflect on their participation in parish life, their commitment to leadership, and their involvement in youth ministries. The slogan “Imagine Mongu Diocese Without Me” is a call to responsibility, sacrifice, and active engagement.

With gratitude, the Diocese acknowledges all youth leaders, chaplains, patrons, matrons, and the Diocesan Youth Coordinator for their dedicated service throughout the year.

Young people are reminded that they are not a peripheral group in the Church—they are an essential part of parish life and must take their rightful place in decision-making structures.

May Mary, Mother of our Savior, accompany every young person in their journey of faith.

THE SOLEMNITY OF THE LORD

JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE

Thirty-fourth Sunday of the Year ( C )

Theme of the Sunday: A KING WHO CONDEMNS NOBODY.

FIRST READING

“They anointed David king over Israel.”

A reading from the second Book of Samuel (2 Samuel 5:1-3)

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 122:1-2. 4-5 (R. Cf. 1)

R/. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

SECOND READING

“He has transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.”

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians (Colossians 1: 12-20)

ALLELUIA Mark 11:9b. 10a

Alleluia. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming! Alleluia.

GOSPEL

“Lord, remember me when you come in your kingly power.”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 23:35-43)

The first reading tells us how David, after defeating all his enemies, was anointed king over all Israel. His kingdom, great and powerful, became the symbol of the kingdom of peace and justice that God would one day establish on earth. Israel waited many centuries for the coming of the one who would begin this kingdom.

The gospel gives us God’s answer to expectations. Jesus was not proclaimed king as he sat on a throne, but when he was nailed to a cross. His victory is the victory of love, not of arrogance or violence, as the second reading tells us. We end Year C and the liturgical cycle of three years with the image of Jesus forgiving everybody.

Let us keep in mind that God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, his ways are not ours. The heavens are as high above earth as his thoughts are above our thoughts.

Wishing you a blessed Solemnity.
