WE DID NOT MERELY HOLD A CHURCH SERVICE, WE EXPERIENCED A HIGHLY ELECTRIFYING ATMOSPHERE;
below are some notable points.
THEME: Understanding the Holy Sanctity of God’s Temple
Bible Readings
Book of Isaiah 6:1–8
First Epistle to the Corinthians 3:16–17
Gospel of Matthew 21:12–16
Introduction
In Book of Isaiah 6:1–8, Isaiah saw the Lord seated on the throne, high and lifted up. The temple was filled with His glory, and the angels cried, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts.”
This shows that God’s temple is a place of holiness, purity, and reverence.
In First Epistle to the Corinthians 3:16–17, we are reminded that we are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in us. Therefore, anyone who defiles the temple of God will face consequences.
In Gospel of Matthew 21:12–16, Jesus cleansed the temple because it had been turned into a marketplace. This teaches us that God does not tolerate the corruption of His holy dwelling place.
Key Lesson:
👉 Pride goes before destruction. When people forget the holiness of God, they begin to defile His temple.
1. Ways in Which God’s Temple Can Be Defiled
A. Personal Temple (Our Bodies)
Since we are God’s temple, we defile it through:
Smoking
Alcohol abuse
Watching immoral or dirty things
Indecent dressing
Clothes are meant to cover shame before God and people. Indecent dressing dishonors both the body and God.
Fornication and adultery
Pride and unrepentant sin
In the story of Jonah (Jonah 2), Jonah repented and God restored him. Repentance brings cleansing.
B. Physical Church Building
The church building is holy ground. It can be defiled by:
Allowing overgrown grass and neglect
Stealing church property
Practicing satanic or witchcraft activities
Using the church for ungodly purposes
The house of God must be respected and maintained properly.
2. Consequences of Defiling God’s Temple
In Book of Ezekiel 5:11, God warns that He will withdraw His favor when His sanctuary is defiled.
Other consequences include:
Loss of God’s presence
Spiritual dryness
Judgment
Destruction
The Bible clearly says in First Epistle to the Corinthians 3:17, “If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person.”
3. Attaining and Maintaining God’s Temple
In Gospel of Matthew 21, Jesus cleansed the temple. This teaches us:
We must allow Jesus to cleanse our hearts.
We must remove anything that does not glorify God.
We must maintain holiness daily.
The scripture says, “From the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have perfected praise.” This means God desires pure worship from clean hearts.
How to Maintain God’s Temple:
Repentance
Prayer
Reading the Word
Holy living
Respect for the church
Conclusion
God is Holy, and those who worship Him must worship Him in holiness.
When Isaiah was cleansed, God sent him on a mission: “Here am I, send me.”
👉 Whom God cleanses, He sends for mission work.
Let us keep both our bodies and our church holy because we are God’s temple.
