Lamentations 2:19 Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Matthew 26:41

What a wonderfully concise directive Jesus gives us for fighting temptation! This world affords a thousand enticements to a thousand different sins. And our sinful nature assaults us from the inside with a complex and varied array of lusts, fears, ambitions, and doubts.

Yet Jesus' simple, balanced admonition is an effective weapon against every one of these temptations to sin: watch and pray.

Lest we expect God to do all our fighting for us, we are told to watch. It is our responsibility to keep our spiritual eyes open (which sometimes means keeping our physical eyes closed or averted) for any avenue by which sin might gain entrance into our soul. We are to guard our heart from disloyalty, and our testimony from indiscretion, by actively engaging ourselves in the relentless pursuit of purity and goodness.

On the other hand, we cannot possibly expect to overcome our ever-present inclination toward sin, or the age-old cunning of Satan, in our own strength. And so we must pray. We must rely on the sustaining grace and purifying power of the Holy Spirit's work within us.

Because our flesh is so weak, no matter how willing our spirit may be it is imperative that we be in a constant posture of watchfulness and prayer. In fact, there is a direct correlation, Jesus tells us, between our prayerful watchfulness and our ability to withstand or avoid temptation. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ™Œ

Psalms 103:1-3

It is hard to find a more passionate doxology anywhere in Scripture than David's heart cry here.

All that is within me, David says, is drawn to exalt and proclaim the One who heals every disease. He is Jehovah Rapha, the healer.

Have you come to know your need of healing? It is only when you are brought, like David, to pray, "Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul" (Psalm 41:4), that you will be blessed, like David, to see God as your soul-restoring shepherd (Psalm 23).

The only thing worse than finding out you're sick, is being sick and not realizing it. This is what Jesus was referring to when he said, "They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick" (Mark 2:17). Only when we see our sickness will we come to the physician for healing.

Because God is the great healer, he is therefore also the great wounder. He faithfully chastens each of his children into a realization of their guiltiness and emptiness before a holy God and a bankrupt world.

"As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten" (Revelation 3:19). He wounds so that he then can heal. No one has ever come to God for soul repair and been turned away. David confesses, "I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me" (Psalm 30:2).

Have you cried to the Lord, bringing him your wounded pride and ambition? If so, then you can rest assured that the great Physician will heal you. It is for the sick that he is come.

Proverbs 1:7-8

The first thing that many schools throw out of any discussion or pursuit of knowledge is God. Yet here we see that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge -- we cannot hope to attain any real understanding of our world, its purpose, or our place in it without first turning to and learning from God.

The fool looks at material things and therefore assumes things about God; the wise man or woman looks at God and therefore assumes things about material things. Which are you?

Do you look at the world through the lens of God's Word and with a fearsome understanding that it was created for the glory of God? If so, then intellectual pursuits, family relationships, job opportunities, and every other area of life will fit into place. On the other hand, if you do not begin with the fear of the Lord, then life will seem like a crossword puzzle with the wrong answer already scrawled across its middle; nothing will seem to fit.

If you are getting some wrong answers, that don't seem to fit or solve the problems in your life, try erasing all your own answers and replacing them with God's. Remember, he is the one that made us and he has given us the solutions we need in his Word. The fear of the Lord is the beginning...πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Nehemiah 2:1-6

There are numerous points of interest to this prayer.

First, notice the context of it. It is not a quiet bedroom, or a crowded church pew, or a scenic nature spot -- Nehemiah prays to God in the middle of a conversation with his king!

Nehemiah knew he needed to choose his words, and requests, well and so he fires a prayer to heaven even as he converses with his employer and ruler...and God answers it! Remember this next time you think you are too busy to ask God for help, or direction, or protection.

Notice to whom Nehemiah prays. He prays to the God! While living in a pagan land, surrounded by idolatry and hedonism, Nehemiah clings tenaciously to the one true and living God. Likewise, countless counterfeits are offered for true religion today, many of them just reworking age-old Eastern paganism.

But remember this lesson from Nehemiah: there are millions of gods to which you can pray, but only one God Who answers.

And this God is the God of heaven. He not only answers prayer, but has the strength to fulfill needs, move hearts, change circumstances, and forgive sins. Only the God of heaven, who rules sovereignly over earth, is worth praying to.

Last, and just as important, we notice that Nehemiah says it was I who prayed. He did not rely on his parents, or prophets, or anyone else's religion. He personally pursued the God from whom he hoped to receive answers.

Have you prayed to the God of heaven today? You are never too busy to pray, and he is never too busy to hear and answer. Take your time and just communicate to God in prayer πŸ™ πŸ™ŒπŸ‘

ISAIAH 61:1-2
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
