FIRST READING
“You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you. ”
A reading from the first Letter of Saint Peter (1 Peter 2:2-5.9-12)

Beloved: Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation; for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious; and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. Once you were no people but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I beg you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh that wage war against your soul. Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

The word of the Lord

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 100: 1-2.3.4.5 (R. 2b)
R/. Come before the Lord, singing for joy.

Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing for joy. R/.

Know that he, the Lord, is God.
He made us; we belong to him.
We are his people, the sheep of his flock. R/.

R/. Come before the Lord, singing for joy.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and
his courts with songs of praise.
Give thanks to him, and bless his name. R/.

Indeed, how good is the Lord,
eternal his merciful love.
He is faithful from age to age. R/.

ALLELUIA John 8: 12
Alleluia. I am the light of the world, says the Lord; he who follows me will have the light of life. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Master let me receive my sight. ”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (Mark 10:46-52)

At that time: As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; rise, he is calling you.” And throwing off his cloak he sprang up and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Master, let me receive my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

BISHOP CHISANGA EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO ALL INVOLVED IN HOSTING THE PAPAL LEGATE IN MANSA DIOCESE

By Fr. Charles Chilambe

The Bishop of Mansa Diocese, Rt. Rev. Patrick Chisanga, has expressed deep gratitude to all the people of Mansa Diocese for the respectful and warm reception given to the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, Archbishop Gian Luca Perici.

The Apostolic Nuncio, designated to Zambia and Malawi by the Holy See, successfully carried out his pastoral visitation to Mansa Diocese. He arrived in Mansa on Friday, 22nd May 2026, and safely returned to Lusaka on Monday, 25th May 2026.

In a letter issued yesterday, 26th May 2026, Bishop Chisanga first thanked the Diocesan management team for their sacrifice in preparing for the visit:

"Thank you in particular to the Vicar General, Monsignor Felix Chifumbe, for ably overseeing all the preparations. I equally recognise the central role played by the Diocesan Development Committee (DDC) with its various sub-committees, coordinated by the Pastoral Director, Rev. Fr. Rodgers Chanda, in planning and coordinating all the visits and activities as well as ensuring the comfort and safety of the Nuncio during the period of his visitation," the Bishop wrote.

The Bishop further thanked the Luapula Provincial Administration, represented by the Deputy Permanent Secretary, as well as the civic and traditional leaders of Mansa, Kawambwa, and Chifunabuli Districts. He acknowledged their logistical support and the meaningful partnership demonstrated during all the events of the Nuncio’s visit.

Concluding his letter, Bishop Chisanga thanked all the Christian faithful of the Diocese for turning out in great numbers to meet the Papal Representative and for the support rendered throughout the days of the visitation. He invoked divine blessings upon all the Christians of the Diocese and prayed that the Nuncio’s visitation would strengthen the Christian witness of every faithful as the Diocese endeavours to rebuild the Church of Christ through faith formation, infrastructure development, and responsible stewardship.

FIRST READING
You have been ransomed with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish.
A reading from the first Letter of Saint Peter (1 Peter 1 : 18-25)

Beloved: You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was destined before the foundation of the world but was made manifest at the end of the times for your sake. Through him you have confidence in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brethren, love one another earnestly from the heart. You have been born anew, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord abides for ever.” That word is the good news which was preached to you.

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 147:12-13.14-15. 19-20 (R. 12a)
R/. O Jerusalem, glorify the Lord!
Or: Alleluia.

O Jerusalem, glorify the Lord!
O Sion, praise your God!
He has strengthened the bars of your gates;
he has blessed your children within you. R/.

He established peace on your borders;
he gives you your fill of finest wheat.
He sends out his word to the earth,
and swiftly runs his command. R/.

R/. O Jerusalem, glorify the Lord!
Or: Alleluia.

He reveals his word to Jacob;
to Israel, his decrees and judgements.
He has not dealt thus with other nations;
he has not taught them his judgements. R/.

ALLELUIA Mark 10:45
Alleluia. The Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man will be delivered.”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (Mark 10:32-45)

At that time: The disciples were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the Twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; and they will mock him, and spit upon him, and scourge him, and kill him; and after three days he will rise.” And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him, and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the chalice that I drink, or to be baptised with the baptism with which I am baptised?” And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The chalice that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptised, you will be baptised; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” And when the Ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

FIRST READING
They prophesied the grace that was to be yours, so be sober set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you.
A reading from the first Letter of Saint Peter (1 Peter 1:10- 16)

Beloved: The prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired about the salvation of souls; they inquired what person or time was indicated by the Spirit of Christ within them when predicting the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glory. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things which have now been announced to you by those who preached the good news to you through the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. Therefore gird up your minds, be sober, set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 98: 1.2-3ab.3cd-4 (R. 2a)
R/. The Lord has made known his salvation.

O sing a new song to the Lord,
for he has worked wonders.
His right hand and his holy arm
have brought salvation. R/.

The Lord has made known his salvation,
has shown his deliverance to the nations.
He has remembered his merciful love
and his truth for the house of Israel. R/.

R/. The Lord has made known his salvation.

All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.
Shout to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song,
and sing out your praise. R/.

ALLELUIA Matthew 11:25
Alleluia. Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
You will receive a hundredfold now in this time with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (Mark 10:28-31)

At that time: Peter began to say to Jesus, “Behold, we have left everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you; there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. But many that are first will be last, and the last first.”

FIRST READING
‘The offspring of the woman will crush your’
A reading from the book of Genesis 3:9-15, 20

After Adam had eaten of the tree, the Lord God called him and asked him, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden; but I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid myself.” Then he asked, “Who told you that you were naked? You have eaten, then, from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat!” The man replied, “The woman whom you put here with me – she gave me fruit from the tree, and so I ate it. “The LORD God then asked the woman, “Why did you do such a thing?” The woman answered “The serpent tricked me into it, so I ate it.” Then the LORD God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you shall be banned from all the animals and from all the wild creatures; on your belly shall you crawl, and dirt shall you eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will stride at you head, while you strike at his heel.” The man called his wife Eve, because she became the mother of all those who live..

RESPONSORIAL PSALM - Psalm 86 (87)
R/. Of you are told glorious things, O city of God!

On the holy mountain is his city
cherished by the Lord.
The Lord prefers the gates of Zion
to all Jacob’s dwellings. R/.

Of you are told glorious things,
O city of God!
‘Zion shall be called “Mother”
for all shall be her children R/.

R/. Of you are told glorious things, O city of God!

It is he, the Lord Most High,
who gives each his place.
In his register of peoples he writes:
‘These are her children,’
and while they dance they will sing:
‘In you all find their home,’ R/.

Alleluia
Happy are you, holy Virgin Mary, and most worthy of all praise, for from you arose the sun of justice, Christ our God.

GOSPEL
‘Behold your son. Behold your mother.’
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John (John 19:25-34)

Stand by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciples there whom he loved, he said to his mother. “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold you mother,” And from that hour the disciples took her into his home. After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled. Jesus said, “I thirst.” There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth. When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, “It is finished.” And bowing his head he handed over the spirit. Now since it was preparation day, in order that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the Sabbath, for the Sabbath day of that week was a solemn one, the Jews asked Pilate that their legs be broken and they be taken down. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and them of the other one who was crucified with Jesus. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs, but one soldier thrust his lance into his side, and immediately blood and water flowed out.
