A BIBLICAL GUIDE AS WE🇿🇲 GO TO THE POLLS ON THURSDAY 13TH AUGUST, 2026.

As we go to the polls on Thursday 13th August, 2026, Christians are reminded that God’s Word gives principles for choosing leaders.

Leadership is not merely about popularity, money, promises, or political influence. Character matters. Integrity matters. Wisdom matters.

📖EXODUS 18:21 & ACTS 6:3 teach us to look for leaders who are:

1.CAPABLE — Competent and able to carry responsibility.
2.TRUSTWORTHY — Honest, faithful, and dependable.
3.HATE DISHONEST GAIN — Reject corruption, greed, bribery, and selfish gain.
4.OF GOOD REPUTATION — Known for proven character and integrity.
5.FULL OF WISDOM — Able to make sound, fair, and responsible decisions.

CHRISTIANS, LET US CHOOSE WITH WISDOM, NOT EMOTION.

Do not be controlled by tribalism, money, pressure, hatred, or empty promises.
Pray. Think carefully. Examine character. Vote responsibly. Respect others. Reject violence.

May God guide and give us leaders who will serve with wisdom, integrity, justice, and humility “For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” Romans 13:1 (HCSB).

TWO ORDINANCES

As Baptists, we believe that Jesus Christ instituted only two ordinances for His church:

1.Believer's Baptism and,
2.The Lord's Supper.

These ordinances do not save but are acts of obedience that visibly proclaim the gospel of Christ.

1. Believer's Baptism;
As Baptists, we practice believer's baptism by immersion because it was commanded by Christ and consistently practiced in the New Testament. Baptism always follows personal repentance and faith in Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19–20; Acts 2:41; Acts 8:36–38). It symbolizes the believer's identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:3–4).

2. The Lord's Supper;
The Lord's Supper is a memorial of Christ's sacrificial death and a proclamation of His second coming. Jesus commanded His disciples to observe it in remembrance of Him (Luke 22:19–20), and the church continues to proclaim His death until He returns (1 Corinthians 11:23–26).

Why Baptists Receive Only Baptized Believers into Church Membership.

The New Testament pattern is clear: repentance and faith, followed by believer's baptism, then church membership. Those who believed were baptized and then added to the local church (Acts 2:41–42; Acts 8:12). Therefore, as Baptists, we regard believer's baptism as the biblical public profession of faith that ordinarily precedes full church membership.

Why Baptists Do Not Practice Infant Baptism.

Authentic Baptists do not practice infant baptism because Scripture teaches that baptism is only for those who have personally repented and believed in Christ; (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Acts 8:12; Acts 18:8).
Since infants cannot yet exercise personal faith and repentance, and because the New Testament gives no command or example of infant baptism, Authentic Baptists only dedicate children to the Lord (1 Samuel 1:27–28; Mark 10:13–16) and reserve baptism for those who personally trust in Jesus Christ.

The Presbyterian Church in America voted against allowing women to serve as ordained deacons during its General Assembly in Louisville, Kentucky.

The proposal would have changed the PCA’s church order by removing “men” from the qualifications for deacons, while keeping the office of elder restricted to men. The assembly rejected the measure with overwhelming support for keeping the current standard.

The PCA also advanced a partial report on Christian nationalism, affirming that church and state have distinct God-given roles and warning against any version of Christian nationalism tied to racial superiority, ethnic partiality or confusing national identity with God’s kingdom.

The committee will continue its work for another year before bringing a full report to the 2027 General Assembly.

PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS.

The Priesthood of All Believers is the third distinctive of the Baptist distinctives, teaching that every Christian who has faith in Jesus Christ has direct access to God without needing a human priest or mediator because Jesus Christ is the only Great High Priest and mediator between God and humanity. All believers can approach God confidently in prayer, worship, confession, and service (Hebrews 4:14–16; 1 Timothy 2:5).

It affirms that every believer is spiritually called to know God personally, live a holy life, study His Word, and actively participate in Christ’s ministry as part of the “royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:5, 9).

WHAT IT DOES NOT MEAN:

1.Every Believer is a Pastor;
Priesthood of all believers does not mean that every Christian is a pastor.
Scripture clearly teaches that Christ appoints specific offices such as pastors/elders to lead, teach, and equip the church (Ephesians 4:11–12; 1 Timothy 3:1–7). These are distinct, God-ordained callings with specific qualifications.

2.All Believers hold the same Office or Authority;
Priesthood of all believers does not mean that all believers hold the same office or authority within the church. While all Christians are equal in access to God and dignity before Him, they have different gifts and responsibilities within the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:4–27; Romans 12:4–8). Each role is important, but not identical in function or authority.

In Conclusion, all believers are priests before God through Christ, but not all are pastors, elders, or deacons, and do not all hold same Office or Authority. God assigns different roles and authority for the orderly functioning of His church.
