OCTOBER 13TH 2024.

*TWENTY* *EIGHTH* *SUNDAY* IN *ORDINARY* *TIME* *YEAR* *B* .

*FIRST* *READING*
“I accounted wealth as nothing in comparison with wisdom.”
WISDOM 7: 7 - 11

I prayed, and understanding was given me; I called upon God, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. I preferred her to sceptres and thrones, and I accounted wealth as nothing in comparison with her. Neither did I liken to her any priceless gem, because all gold is but a little sand in her sight, and silver will be accounted as clay before her. I loved her more than health and beauty, and I chose to have her rather than light, because her radiance never ceases. All good things came to me along with her, and in her hands uncounted wealth.

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Psalm 90: 12 - 13, 14 - 15, 16 - 17 (R.) 14

R/. Fill us with your merciful love, O Lord, and we shall exult.

Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain wisdom of heart.
Turn back, O Lord! How long?
Show pity to your servants. R/.

At dawn, fill us with your merciful love;
we shall exult and rejoice all our days.
Give us joy for the days of our affliction,
for the years when we looked upon evil. R/.

Let your deed be seen by your servants,
and your glorious power by their children.
Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us;
give success to the work of our hands.
O give success to the work of our hands. R/.

*SECOND* *READING*
“The word of God discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
HEBREWS 4: 12 - 13

The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And before him no creature is hidden, but all are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

The Word of the Lord.

*GOSPEL* *ACCLAMATION*
*Matthew* 5: 3

Alleluia.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Go, sell what you have, and come, follow me.”
MARK 10: 17 - 30

At that time: As Jesus was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honour your father and mother.”’ And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth.” And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing; go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” At that saying his countenance fell, and he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it will be for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!” And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.” 'Peter began to say to him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the Gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.”

_*6TH OCTOBER 2024.*_

_*TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B.*_

_*FIRST READING*_
_“They become one flesh.”_
_*GENESIS 2: 18 - 24*_

The LORD God said, “it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” so out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper fit for him. So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “this at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man.” Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh.

_*RESPONSORIAL PSALM*_
_Psalm 128: 1 - 2, 3, 4 - 5, 6 (R.) 5_

_*R/. May the Lord bless us all the days of our lives.*_

Blessed are all who fear the LORD,
and walk in his ways!
By the labour of your hands you shall eat.
You will be blessed and prosper. *R/.*

Your wife like a fruitful vine
in the heart of your house;
Your children like shoots of the olive
around your table. *R/.*

Indeed thus shall be blessed
the man who fears the LORD.
May the LORD bless you from Sion.
May you see Jerusalem prosper
all the days of your life! *R/.*

May you see your children’s children.
On Israel, peace! *R/.*

_*SECOND READING*_
_“He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin.”_
_*HEBREWS 2: 9 - 11*_

Brethren: we see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honour because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brethren.

_*The Word of the Lord.*_

_*GOSPEL ACCLAMATION*_
1st John 4: 12

Alleluia.
_If we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us._
Alleluia.

_*GOSPEL*_
_“What God has joined together, let no man put asunder.”_
_*MARK 10: 2 - 16*_

At that time: Pharisees came up and in order to test Jesus asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to put her away.” But Jesus said to them, “For your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
And they were bringing children to him, that he might touch them; and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it he was indignant, and said to them, “Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands upon them.
