OLD IS GOLD: Reviving the Old Time Religion at Hope SDA Church, East Zambia Field.

The Hope SDA Church of the East Zambia Field stepped back into history not to escape the present but to reconnect with the foundation that shaped its identity. The church experience reflected a powerful revival of β€œold time religion” a return to simplicity, reverence, and deep spiritual consciousness.

Members embraced the spirit of earlier generations reflected not only in traditional attire but also in the depth of worship. The atmosphere carried a strong reminder of how Sabbath was once kept marked by reverence, order, and heartfelt devotion. It was a living lesson to the younger generation on what it truly means to honour God’s holy day.

Beyond the sanctuary moments, fellowship extended to shared meals recreating the warmth and unity of earlier church life. Conversations, laughter, and togetherness echoed the values of community that have long defined the Adventist identity.

This gathering was more than a themed service it was a deliberate spiritual reflection. A call to remember the pillars of faith reverence in worship, respect for doctrine, and the simplicity that strengthens spiritual focus in a changing world.

In a time of rapid change the message was clear and deliberate the strength of the church lies in remembering its roots.

✨ Reviving the old time religion is not nostalgia it is spiritual grounding for the latter days.

πŸŽ™οΈ Preacher: Dr Emmanuel Mwale
πŸ“ Occasion: Funeral Service for Elder & Master Guide Lastin Pupwe
πŸ›οΈ Venue: Chipata Main SDA Church
πŸ“… Date: 17th June, 2026

πŸ“– Main Bible Texts
β€’ Ezekiel 33:11
β€’ Revelation 14:13

The sermon was anchored on God's heartfelt appeal in Ezekiel 33:11:

Β«"As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live."Β»

From this passage, the preacher highlighted important lessons:

πŸ”Ή God desires salvation, not destruction.

πŸ”Ή Every sinner has an opportunity to repent.

πŸ”Ή Life is a period of preparation for eternity.

πŸ”Ή Death can come at any time; therefore, we must always be ready.

πŸ”Ή God's grace remains available to all who turn to Him.

Dr Emmanuel Mwale described Elder Lastin Pupwe as one of those rare individuals of whom people can genuinely say, "He was a good man." He testified that Elder Pupwe lived a life of faithfulness, kindness, generosity, and Christian service. His home was an open home, and his life reflected the love of Christ.

The preacher stated that he preached for two reasons:

1️⃣ Because he personally knew Elder Lastin Pupwe.

2️⃣ To remind every one of us that we must prepare either for death or for the soon return of Jesus Christ.

A solemn reminder was given that only a few days before his death, Elder Pupwe stood before the church during the Divine Service on Sabbath, 13th June 2026, faithfully interpreting the sermon. He was also scheduled to preach on Sabbath, 20th June 2026. Yet before that appointment could come, God called His servant to rest.

The central question of the sermon was:

❓ "How are you going to die, and how will death find you?"

Will death find us faithfully serving God, or living carelessly and unprepared?

The sermon further explored the First and Second Resurrections, the Millennium, the fate of the righteous and the wicked, and the glorious hope of the New Jerusalem. Members were reminded that the saints will spend one thousand years with Christ before inheriting God's eternal kingdom.

πŸ”‘ Key Lessons

βœ… Death is certain, but its timing is unknown.

βœ… Every believer must prepare daily to meet God.

βœ… God desires repentance and salvation for all people.

βœ… A faithful Christian life leaves a lasting testimony.

βœ… The First Resurrection remains the hope of God's faithful children.

βœ… The Second Coming of Jesus is near.

βœ… The New Jerusalem is the eternal home prepared for the redeemed.

Memorable Thought

"The question is not whether you will die; the question is how death will find you."

As we reflected on the life of Elder Lastin Pupwe, we were reminded that the greatest preparation in life is to be ready for eternity.

πŸ’™ Rested in the Lord, awaiting the glorious resurrection morning.
