Message Title: The Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Preaching By: Bishop John Lumbwe

As Pentecostals and people of Charismatic persuasion, it’s important that we keep on emphasizing one of the foundations of our belief - that the Holy Spirit is real and people can have an encounter with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is dynamic, he is real and empowering. There is an experience for a Christian called The Baptism in the Holy Spirit or the Infilling of the Holy Spirit. It’s an encounter with God and Jesus spoke about it, promised it to his Disciples, fulfilled it in the life of his Disciples and he continues to fill people with the Holy Spirit.

(Acts 1:4-5 & )

The word baptism means to be submerged into something. To be immersed, to be Dipped.
Jesus spoke about 2 kinds of baptism: one to be baptised with water and the other by the Spirit.

In the Christian faith, water baptism or being baptized with water unites us with the person Jesus Christ. when a person is baptised in water, it means dying with Christ and being resurrected with Him.
Every Christian must be baptised in water; it is not optional. It is essential in the Christian faith that you are Baptized in water to Identify fully with Christ in his Death and in his Resurrection.

Being baptised with the Holy Spirit is not the same as being baptised with water. When being baptised with the Holy Spirit, you receive power.

Acts 2:1-4
Jesus is saying, you’re going to have the experience not many days from now.
Jews had 3 major feasts;
1. The Feast of the Passover, 2. The Feast of Pentecost and 3. the Feast of Tabernacles.
So, on the Feast of Tabernacles he promised, the Feast of Passover he dies and on the Feast of Pentecost the Holy Spirit comes. So everything is interwoven.

Manifestation accompanying the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost
1. The Holy Spirit’s presence is heard (Acts 2:2). The coming of the Spirit opens our spiritual ears to hear what is in the realm of the Spirit. The sound of heaven is not the same sound that everyone will hear. It is a sound that only the disciples could hear. If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, your spiritual ears are sharpened to hear the sound of heaven and the voice of God. It does not mean everything you hear is of God, but you become more and more aware of the realm of the Spirit.
2. They Saw Something - The Holy Spirit’s presence is seen. It was not visible to the ordinary eye, but their eyes were quickened and they began to see. It takes your eyes being quickened in order to see what God is revealing to you in the realm of the Spirit.
3. The Holy Spirit filled everyone who was gathered, regardless of age, race, and gender. We can all be filled with the Holy Spirit. The church age is a time with no segregation, which is why all were filled with the Holy Spirit. People feel the Holy Spirit; others cry and get goosebumps. It is important to be baptised by the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit empowers a believer.

SUNDAY SERVICE

Preaching By: Bishop John Lumbwe
Message Title: Focus

In this life, you find many hurdles, temptations, and challenges along the way that can make you lose focus of the promise God has for you. Today, I want you not to lose focus.

Hebrews 12:1

Focus is one of the most important disciplines in life that you must have if you are going to achieve anything in life.

So much of life is designed to take us off our focus and misalign us.

Noah maintained focus when building the ark for 120 years in the midst of criticism and discouragement. Yet he remained true to the calling of God that it would rain one day.

Moses was a man of focus to deliver the children of Israel. Esther was also focused, as well as the great Apostle Paul and David. All these were people of focus.
1. Focus on Jesus Christ
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. If the Lord starts with you, He will finish with you. He who started a great thing in you will perfect it in your life.

Many times, we focus on people who have promised to do something for us, but many times they disappoint us. But Jesus never disappoints us.

Whatever you do in life, never take your eyes off Jesus. Some of you are going through challenges that leave you wondering when you will see your dreams come to pass.
2. Focus on your Journey
When you are in a race, you keep your eyes on the finish line. Give full concentration unto the race that God has placed before you. Focus on your race; do not focus on your neighbours.

One of the reasons people do not make it in life is because they focus on what other people are doing instead of focusing on their own lives. Do not end up destroying your own confidence.

In your race, we do not compete with others because you do not know what God has planned to do with their lives. Focus on your race. Do not be intimidated by the way people are running their race.

Nobody can run your race. Keep your eyes on the journey God is taking you through.

Some people get married and have babies immediately, while others get theirs 2, 5, or even 10 years later, but that does not mean they are late. Focus on the journey God is taking you through. It may get tough, but always remain focused on your journey ahead. God will see you through.

Focus on your dreams. You will not lose your life before you accomplish your dreams. God will help you achieve your dreams.

In life, we get distracted by the following, which can take away your focus:
1. Warfare: When you look at your life and everything looks like a fight, everything is a struggle. Some of you look at your whole life and nothing is easy; everything is a battle. At every point in life, someone is fighting a battle. There are seasons in your life where battles increase and you get tired, but do not allow your battles to weary you and make you lose focus. Hebrews 10:39 — do not get tired of fighting; the Lord Himself will give you the victory.
2. Wounds: You will be wounded in life; something or someone can hurt you. You will be disappointed, betrayed, and hurt, and that can take your focus off. For all of us, there is someone who thinks we betrayed them, and there are people whom we think betrayed us. Do not allow the pain and hurt of life to make you hide in a cave. Life is not going to spare you because you got wounded. Your weakness will attract predators. Be strong in the Lord; do not show your wounds and pains. People will attack you when you advertise your weaknesses. Wounds distract you from your focus.
3. Wandering: When you lose direction without knowing where you are going. May the Lord deliver you from the spirit of wandering so that you may not move aimlessly. For the steps of a righteous man are ordered by God.
4. Waiting: Delayed expectations where you wait for a long time and nothing happens. Your wait is not in vain; may the Lord come through for you. Psalm 84:5-7 — a man on a journey is a man with a focused heart. He should be able to transform negative circumstances into positive ones.

A focused heart increases power and goes from strength to strength.
