Maria Degli Angeli Convent Girls Boarding School in Luanshya has been officially blessed, consecrated, and opened during a colourful ceremony attended by clergy, religious sisters, school management, pupils, parents, and invited guests.

Although Archbishop of Ndola, Most Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD, was unable to attend, he was represented by the Vicar General, Very Rev. Fr. Ephraim Mulenga Mapulanga, who presided over the ceremony on his behalf.

Speaking during the event, Fr. Mapulanga commended the Franciscan Sisters of Assisi for their dedication to the education and holistic formation of young people. He noted that education and healthcare remain important pillars of the Catholic Church's mission of evangelization and service to society.

The school was constructed with financial support from Missio Invest-USA and is expected to contribute significantly to the provision of quality Catholic education in the country. Very Rev. Fr. Mapulanga encouraged the learners to take full advantage of the opportunities provided and to strive for excellence in both academics and character formation.

Missio Country Coordinator for Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, Mr. Frank Mambala, expressed gratitude to all benefactors and stakeholders who made the project possible, while Luanshya District Education Board Secretary, Mr. Hameeno Munumbwe, praised the school for its commitment to academic excellence, environmental stewardship, and practical skills development.

The opening of the school marks an important milestone in the Church's continued commitment to providing quality education and nurturing future generations.

On 30th May 2026, the Archdiocese of Ndola celebrated Holy Childhood Day in a colourful and vibrant gathering that brought together over 7,000 children from all ten deaneries of the Archdiocese.

The day began with the celebration of Holy Mass presided over by the Archbishop of Ndola, Most Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD. The Archbishop was warmly welcomed by the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) Director, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Bwalya, who coordinated the event.

In his homily, Archbishop Phiri expressed his joy at witnessing the active participation of children in the life of the Church. He commended their knowledge of the liturgy and encouraged them to continue growing in their faith through prayer, obedience, and active involvement in Church activities. He reminded them that they hold a special place in the heart of Jesus and urged them to remain faithful to God, their parents, teachers, and Church leaders.

Following Mass, the children took part in a variety of activities that showcased their talents and creativity. Various deaneries presented cultural dances, poems, songs, and other performances, creating an atmosphere of joy, unity, and celebration.

The event highlighted the Holy Childhood motto, "Children Helping Children," and provided an opportunity for young Catholics from across the Archdiocese to interact, learn from one another, and strengthen their faith.

The colourful celebration concluded on a high note, leaving the children inspired and encouraged to continue being young missionaries and witnesses of Christ in their families, schools, and communities.

On 23rd May 2026, the Archbishop of Ndola, Most Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD, travelled to Da Gama Special Needs School to officially open and bless the newly constructed school chapel.

Da Gama Special Needs School is a learning institution dedicated to the education and care of children with special needs, providing both academic and moral formation in a supportive environment.

The Archbishop was warmly received by the school administration, staff, pupils, and well-wishers, including the Headteacher, Sister Ruth Ndhlovu, who expressed gratitude for the blessing of such an important spiritual facility for the school community.

The celebration began with Holy Mass, during which Archbishop Phiri blessed the tabernacle and consecrated the altar, officially dedicating the chapel as a sacred place of worship and prayer.

In his homily, the Archbishop encouraged the pupils to cultivate a personal relationship with God by speaking to Him constantly through every situation they face in life. He emphasized the importance of having a chapel within the school,a quiet and holy place where learners and staff alike can come to pray, reflect, and find peace in God’s presence.

He also encouraged devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, reminding the pupils that Mary is a loving mother who is always ready to listen. He urged them not merely to wear the Rosary as a symbol, but to actively pray it and develop a close relationship with her.
The Archbishop further called on the pupils to become good children of God by promoting love, kindness, and respect for one another, while avoiding behaviors and vices that corrupt morals.

He encouraged them to frequently visit the chapel to spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and to learn the importance of listening and obeying those entrusted with their care.

The celebration concluded joyfully, with beautiful singing from an all-pupil Choir.
