The United Church of Zambia (UCZ) has elected new Presbytery Bishops for the Eastern and Western Presbyteries following Presbytery Council Meetings held on 19 September 2026 in the two Presbyteries.

The elections saw Rev. Harrison Muswema Junior elected as Presbytery Bishop for Eastern Presbytery, while Rev. George Kachiza was elected Presbytery Bishop for Western Presbytery.
The elections mark an important step in strengthening leadership within the two Presbyteries as the Church continues to advance its mission of serving congregations across the country.

Meanwhile, UCZ Synod Bishop Rev. Festus Chulu called on members of the Church to pray for the newly elected leaders, emphasizing that their election is a call to serve God's people.
He has urged members not to treat the outcome as a victory for individuals but as a sacred responsibility, reminding the Church that leadership is about faithful service rather than celebration.

Rev. George Kachiza has been elected Bishop of the United Church of Zambia's Western Presbytery. The elections were conducted at Lilelo Congregation in Mongu South Consistory.

The Bishop-elect is currently serving as Minister in Charge of st Pauls Congregation, Mwenzo East Consistory in Muchinga Presbytery. The election was conducted by three special delegates from Synod: Bishop Rev. Dr .Lordwell Siame, Rev. Bishop. Darius Chitalu of Luapula Presbytery; and Bishop Harrison Silungwe of Muchinga Presbytery. The process was conducted in accordance with Synod rules and regulations.

Rev. Kachiza, who takes over from Bishop Roy Kanchele, thanked the delegates present for entrusting him with the responsibility, saying: "I will not take this responsibility for granted."
