President Hichilema Reveals Copperbelt Donations Paid His Nomination Fee
President Hakainde Hichilema has revealed that the nomination fee used for his filing ahead of the August 13 general elections came from donations made by students, marketeers, and small-scale miners on the Copperbelt.
Last Tuesday, supporters marched from the Ndola Teaching Hospital roundabout to the Copperbelt Provincial Administration, where they delivered more than K100,000 in coins to support the President’s nomination process.
Among those who contributed were students from Copperbelt University School of Medicine, Northern Technical College, Mukuba University, Kitwe Vocational Training, and ZIBSIP College.
During the march, the students reportedly said they would have also contributed towards the President’s campaign if their financial situation allowed.
Speaking to thousands of UPND supporters gathered at Mulungushi International Conference Centre during his nomination filing today, President Hichilema expressed gratitude for the contribution and pledged to personally visit the Copperbelt to thank them.
“I want at this point to thank the students on the Copperbelt, the small-scale miners on the Copperbelt, the marketeers on the Copperbelt, who raised small amounts of money and contributed over K100,000, which we have used to pay for the nomination today,” President Hichilema said.
“I will be coming to Copperbelt to have a meeting, to thank you for your contribution.”
The revelation has since sparked huge reactions online, with supporters praising the gesture as a sign of grassroots support ahead of the elections.
