In Loving Memory of Mario Casilli (1936 - 2024)

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the passing of Mario Casilli, a longtime parishioner of St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Welkom, who attended service for many years until his health no longer permitted.

Mario's life was a beautiful tapestry woven between Italy and South Africa. He was a businessman in the goldfields and leaves behind his wife Denise and children Franco, Sandra, Linda, and Mario, along with their children and grandchildren.

Those who knew Mario will never forget him. His spirit will always be with us, in our hearts and in the stories we share. We will hold on to the precious memories and the knowledge that his love will always be a part of our lives.

We invite you to join us in remembering and honoring the remarkable man he was.

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the passing away of a former parishioner of St. Dominic's Catholic Church Welkom, Mr. John Blackburn. John was active for many years in music ministry, playing the guitar and singing. He was especially supportive of the youth of the parish, encouraging them to play the guitar and other music instruments with him. He was the widower of Jenny and spent his last years living in Cape Town. John was also a Knight of da Gama in Council 8 St. Dominic's Welkom. Rest In Peace John.

I have sad news to report. Billy Fourie, who was a well known and well loved former parishioner of St Dominic's Catholic Church in Welkom died of COVID-19 at the Mediclinic in Bloemfontein during the night from 27 to 28 July. Billy was the widower of Clare Fourie, who died two years ago. He struggled bravely with many health issues during the last couple of years of his life. Rest In Peace Billy. May Perpetual Light shine upon you. We offer our condolences to all his loved ones.

In de nacht van 11 januari 2021 overleed in het ziekenhuis in Leiden broeder Carel Spruijt o.p. (88), oud-missionaris in Zuid-Afrika.

I am sad to inform you that Fr Carel Spruyt OP has died in The Netherlands of COVID-19. He was the Parish Priest of St Dominic's twice, first in the seventies and again from 1995 to, I think, 2010. May he Rest In Peace.
