COME AND SEE 2026

From 30 March to 7 April 2026, we welcomed 13 young men to Inkamana Abbey in Vryheid for the Come and See program. This initiative offers young men a valuable opportunity to experience firsthand how we live and how we form those discerning a vocation to monastic life.
Throughout these days, a variety of talks were presented, explaining what it means to be a monk, a missionary, and a religious. These sessions helped participants deepen their understanding of the commitment and mission involved in this way of life.
This morning, the young men prepared to return to their respective homes.
Let us keep these young men in our prayers, that the Lord may watch over them and guide them as they continue their discernment. For “the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” (Matthew 9:37).

The Easter Vigil celebrated at Inkamana Abbey was a deeply spiritual and solemn occasion, marking the culmination of the Paschal Triduum and the transition from the darkness of Good Friday to the joy of the Resurrection.
The liturgy began in the evening outside the church with the Service of Light. A new fire was kindled, symbolizing the light of Christ rising from the darkness. The Paschal Candle was lit from this fire and carried into the darkened church in a solemn procession, with the faithful gradually lighting their candles from it. This powerful ritual signified the spreading of Christ’s light to all people.

On Good Friday, Christians around the world commemorate the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. At Inkamana Abbey, this solemn day was marked by the prayerful devotion known as the Stations of the Cross.
The service took place in a quiet and reflective atmosphere, with participants moving from one station to another, recalling the journey of Jesus from his condemnation to his burial. Each station included scripture readings, prayers, and moments of silent meditation, allowing the faithful to reflect deeply on the sacrifice of Christ.
Members of the community, along with visitors, attended the service, demonstrating unity and shared faith. The natural surroundings of the abbey added to the spiritual experience, creating a peaceful environment for contemplation.

The Stations of the Cross at Inkamana Abbey served as a meaningful reminder of the themes of sacrifice, forgiveness, and hope that are central to the Christian faith. The observance helped participants prepare spiritually for the celebration of Easter.

COME AND SEE – 2026

Do you feel called to become a monk?
Do you believe God may be inviting you to serve Him through the beauty and dedication of monastic life?
“Jesus turned and saw them following Him and said to them, ‘What are you seeking?’ They said to Him, ‘Rabbi’ (which means Teacher), ‘where are You staying?’
He said to them, ‘Come and see.’ So they went and saw where He was staying, and they remained with Him that day. It was about the tenth hour.”
— Gospel of John 1:38–39
If you are discerning your vocation and feel a desire to draw closer to Christ through prayer, community, and service, we warmly invite you to take the next step.
Come and see.

We look forward to walking this journey with you. 🔔

Renewal of Vows – Tanzania

Today 10 February on the feast of St scholastica, Br. Benedict Kandjimi, OSB, from Inkamana Abbey, renewed his vows at Mary Help of Christians, Ndanda Abbey, Tanzania. The vows were received by Abbot Christian Temu, OSB, who was delegated by Abbot Rev. Fr. Boniface Kamushishi, OSB.

NOVITIATE

On the evening of 7 February 2026, Brother Edwin Sefuthi from Lesotho was received into the novitiate, at which time he was given a new name, Brother Stephen.
Brother Stephen began his first canonical novitiate, and he was formally accepted by Prior Rev. Fr. Maximilian OSB on behalf of the Abbot.

On this day, he received the scapular, which symbolizes the yoke of Christ (Matthew 11:28–30) and the monk’s dedication to a life of prayer and work. He also received the cincture, signifying the restraint of unbridled desires and a firm commitment to a life of conversion.
Lastly, he received the Rule of our holy father Benedict, a spiritual manual or trellis designed to guide him from a life of self-will toward a life fully rooted in Christ.

Let us join hands in prayer for his spiritual journey during the novitiate, and kindly remember him in your prayers.

SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATED|OSHIKUKU MISSION |

On Saturday, December 27, 2025, we joyfully celebrated a significant milestone in the monastic life of Rev. Br. Alphonsus Absalom Amutenya OSB, who marked 25 years of Monastic Profession as a Missionary Benedictine of St. Ottilien. The celebration took place at his home, Otshikuku Roman Catholic Mission in Namibia.
The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Rev. Fr. Gabriel Nekongo, the parish priest of Oshikuku, and was attended by the Jubilant, the Otshikuku Sisters, as well as friends and family who gathered to honor this special occasion.
This Silver Jubilee is a beautiful testament to Br. Alphonsus's unwavering commitment, service, and devotion to God and his mission over the past 25 years. It’s a moment to give thanks for his tireless dedication to his faith, his congregation, and the people he serves.
As we celebrate this incredible milestone, let us continue to hold him in our prayers. May he be strong in faith, steadfast in prayer, and firm in his love for the congregation and the mission he has faithfully served for so many years.

Let us all join in celebrating this remarkable journey of faith and mission, and may God continue to bless Rev. Br. Alphonsus in the years to come.
