Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
"Receive the Holy Spirit.”
On Pentecost Sunday, these words of Jesus (John 20:21–22) reveal that the coming of the Holy Spirit is not only a gift of comfort but a commissioning.
Jesus first gives peace before giving mission. The disciples were afraid, hiding behind locked doors after the crucifixion. Yet Jesus does not begin with correction; He begins with peace. Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit enters hearts troubled by fear, uncertainty, or weakness and transforms them into hearts filled with courage.
“As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
The Spirit is given for a purpose, that is, mission. Just as Jesus was sent to proclaim good news, heal, forgive and serve, Christians are sent into the world to continue His work. Pentecost is not simply about receiving the Spirit, it is about becoming witnesses of Christ through our words, actions, charity, and compassion.
“He breathed on them… Receive the Holy Spirit.”
The breath of Jesus recalls God breathing life into Adam at creation. Pentecost is a new creation. The Holy Spirit renews, restores and gives life where there is emptiness or fear. The Church is born not through human strength but through the breath of God.
Today, Pentecost asks us:
💥Where do we need Christ’s peace?
💥How is God sending us to serve others?
💥Are we allowing the Holy Spirit to renew and guide us?
✨Pentecost is the movement from fear to courage, from closed doors to mission, from receiving grace to becoming instruments of grace for others.
Congratulations to the new members received today in the Sodality of the Catholic Women’s Association (CWA) and Happy Pentecost 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
