Tugela Ferry is the largest populated area in the Msinga district of Kwa Zulu-Natal. The Tugela River flows through the rural village of Tugela Ferry. There is an estimated population of around 200 thousand people. Rock of Life Christian Church started in 1964 as a very small local church. The congregation grew steadily and in 2000 the membership totaled 400. The mother church in Tugela Ferry supp

orts six full time pastors, all of whom are deployed in branch churches. The mother church is served by one full time pastor, ten elders, and seven deacons. Worship services are held on Sundays at 10:30am, concurrent with Sunday School for the children. The church has six branches in Msinga, 4 branches in the rest of KZN and 3 in Mpumalanga province. Ministries

Tent Ministry
A team of pastors and lay personnel make regular visits to the 13 outlying branches. Some branches are very remote and vehicles cannot navigate the roads, so everyone must walk to the church. Prison Ministry
Pastors and church members visit on Thursdays with men in the local prison. Christian men who were once in prison visit the prisoners to give witness and share their testimonies. Hospital and Hospice Ministry
The HIV/AIDS pandemic has strongly impacted our communities. Church members play an active role in meeting the needs of affected and infected individuals and families. Patients in the local hospital and hospice are visited regularly by workers from the church. Almost weekly the church assists families in conducting home funerals. Bible College Ministry
Rock of Life Church runs the Tugela Ferry Mission College of the Bible. The principal is Dr. Johannes Van der Colff. Once or twice per year, the college runs a two-week Seminar for lay preachers and youth workers from the Rock of Life churches. As needed a one year basic course is offered for church members. Mission School
Rock of Life Church founded a Christian school for the children of church members. The school teaches pre-school through grade 12. There are 190 learners currently enrolled at the school, with 22 teachers. Orphan Care - Khayelisha Care Project
Rock of Life Church runs Khayelisha Care Project, which administers Orphan Care Programs in Msinga, KwaZulu-Natal. At present there are around 300 orphans and vulnerable children who receive monthly food parcels, school fees, school uniforms and clothing as needed. Their caregivers, who have no regular income, are also provided with a daily food parcel. Khayelisha also runs foster care homes and a care centre. Hebron Foster Care
In 2008 two homes were built to house children in foster care at a site called Hebron. It currently houses eight children who, for different reasons, have no possibility of being placed in families in the community. Khayelisha Care Centre
This care center provides step-down health care to young children living with HIV/AIDS, TB, malnutrition, or who have been badly abused or abandoned. They require twenty-four hour care by skilled personnel who administer medications and provide special care. God has honored the Rock of Life Christian Church, the Pastors, Elders, Deacons and membership with a command to feed, clothe, and love the children in this very poor, rural area. There are few work opportunities in Tugela Ferry and unemployment is at an all time high of 70 %. As God grows all of these various ministries, so also grows the need for more financial and material support.

Verse: Nahum 1:7

‘The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of distress; He cares for those who trust in Him.’

- If ever the world was living in ‘days of distress’ it is now.
- But in difficult times, we have a Stronghold.
- A mighty Fortress is our God.
- He is our Tower of strength, and He will never fail or abandon us.

PRAYER: Lord, thank You that You are my Stronghold, You are my Fortress, and You are my Tower of Strength. I choose to run to You, knowing that as I trust You, I can believe that Your care and kindness will be a reality in my life. Amen.

Have a great weekend
