Dewald came to Missions Ablaze in January 2016. He was using alcohol and drugs to cope, and he knew he could not turn it around alone.

He is still here. He has been part of the team for over a decade.

In his words:

"Since I came to Missions Ablaze, I've been able to have discipline in my life and direction. I've managed to find Jesus Christ. God has brought me closer to my family again. We were able to heal and bond with my daughter."

Dewald met Odette at Missions Ablaze. They were married on this mission. Today they supervise daily operations and vehicle maintenance together.

People don't always come here for the reason they end up staying.

Stories like Dewald's are what your R500 a month (about $28) sustains. We call it Monthly Partner. Launches 1 June 2026.

R500 a month.

About a coffee a day.

That's what it costs to support one missionary at Missions Ablaze for a full month. Their living costs. Their daily needs. The reason they can stay on this land and keep doing the work.

We have 14 missionaries in residence right now. People who came for a day and stayed for a decade. People who came for a weekend trip and got married here.

(Three couples have met and married on this mission. We're not running a dating service. It just keeps happening.)

The food is donated. The kitchens are run by local leaders. But the missionaries are the people holding the network together. The drivers leaving at sunrise. The cooks. The office team. The maintenance crew.

R500 a month.

One missionary supported.

One real person who shows up at sunrise.

That's the simplest way to be part of this work. πŸŒ…

Through Covid. Through the 2021 riots that destroyed many of our food sources. Through the 2022 floods. Through the 2024 Tongaat tornado, when we served 250 hot meals a day from a roofless kitchen.

The team did not stop.

30 years. 17 community kitchens. Over 1,000 people fed every day, every weekday, across KwaZulu-Natal.

The food is donated. The model works. The team keeps showing up.

That is what 30 years on the same piece of land in Tongaat looks like.

Same calling. Same gate.

23 years.

Every Wednesday for that long, Pastor Bobby's family has cooked lunch for around 150 adults and 60 children at Tenance Manor in Phoenix. Bread, fruit, vegetables, and any donated clothes that came in that week.

He runs Seeds and Loaves of Bread, the community kitchen there. He pastors Dawncrest Worship Centre, his church in Phoenix. He sits on our board. And every weekend, he drives the routes for Missions Ablaze.

He receives food on Wednesdays. He delivers food on Saturdays.

He knows who in his neighbourhood is hungry this week. We don't. That's why this works. We supply the food. Local leaders feed their own people.

That is what a 23-year partnership looks like.

Follow Missions Ablaze () for one of these every week. There are 17 kitchens. We are getting to all of them.

In 1995, Tinus Lindeque came home from Matchana on a Friday afternoon and lay down to rest on his bed.

Suddenly he saw a vision. The world with a cross towering over it. An eagle rising from the earth. A cross behind it. Four words written across the sky. "We feed the Poor"

Missions Ablaze.

Beneath them, a call he could not walk away from.

Together with his wife Meisie, he started the mission.
- 8 missionaries.
- 2 kombies.
- 300 meals a day.

Then Tinus stood on a quiet plot on Hospital Hill Road in Tongaat. Twice he heard the words: "This is your land." There was no money in the bank. 8 months later, the funds came.

That plot is where the mission still stands today.

30 years later:
- 17 community kitchens.
- Over 1,000 people fed every day.
- 78.9 million meals distributed across KZN since 1995.

Vision is the start. Showing up for thirty years is the work.
