Overcoming Stress.
"Overcoming Stress" — not just mentally, but spiritually, biblically, and practically. Many are silently burdened, but Jesus gives us rest, not pressure.
🧠 1. What is Stress?
Stress is the body and soul's response to pressure, fear, overload, or worry.
It can manifest emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
But behind every overwhelming pressure is often a spirit of fear, anxiety, or unbelief.
> Luke 21:26 (KJV) – Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth…
✝️ 2. Christ, Our Peace in the Storm
Jesus didn’t promise a storm-free life, but a storm-proof peace.
> John 14:27 (KJV) – Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you… Let not your heart be troubled…
Key Truth:
Stress is often the fruit of carrying what only God can carry.
> 1 Peter 5:7 – Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
🔐 3. The Root of Stress is Often Control
Many people stress because they’re trying to control what they were meant to surrender.
We stress about provision → forgetting Jehovah Jireh.
We stress about the future → forgetting He holds tomorrow.
We stress about people → forgetting God is Judge and Defender.
> Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all thine heart… and he shall direct thy paths.
🌬️ 4. Practical Keys to Overcome Stress
✅ A. Pray and Surrender Daily
> Philippians 4:6-7 – Be careful for nothing… let your requests be made known unto God… and the peace of God… shall keep your hearts…
✅ B. Stay in the Word
The Word resets your soul. It removes the “noise” of life and brings focus.
> Psalm 119:165 – Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
✅ C. Worship — Even When You Don’t Feel Like It
Worship breaks heaviness and restores perspective.
> Isaiah 61:3 – ...the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…
✅ D. Rest Your Body and Mind
Even Jesus rested. Stress worsens when we don’t honour the need for rest.
Mark 6:31 – Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while…
Warfare Prayer Against Stress
> “Father, I repent for carrying things I should’ve cast at Your feet. I release every burden, every fear, and every pressure in the name of Jesus. I silence the voice of anxiety and confusion. I speak peace over my mind, body, and soul. Lord, be the Shepherd of every area in my life — and lead me beside still waters. I trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
