At His Feet Devotions. Walking in the Love of Jesus

This is one of those small shifts that changes everything…

Many of us were raised in environments where adults didn’t apologize, didn’t explain, and didn’t repair. Not necessarily because they didn’t care, but because they didn’t have the tools, the awareness, or the regulation to do it differently.

But when a child experiences hurt, confusion, or disconnection, what matters most isn’t perfection, it’s repair!

When you apologize to your child, you’re not lowering your authority. You’re strengthening trust. You’re showing them that relationships can be safe, that mistakes don’t have to lead to disconnection, and that accountability is part of being human.

And when you take a moment to explain, in a calm and regulated way, you’re helping their brain make sense of what happened. You’re teaching them how to communicate, how to take responsibility, and how to move through conflict without shame.

This is how emotional intelligence is built. Not through control, but through connection. Not through fear, but through safety and understanding.

We’re not raising children who need to obey at all costs. We’re raising humans who will one day navigate relationships, express emotions, and communicate with the world around them. And they will do that based on what they experience with us.

One of the biggest misconceptions about chores is that they’re just about getting things done.

They’re not.

Chores are one of the earliest ways children learn responsibility, independence, and how to contribute to a shared space. They build confidence, problem-solving skills, and a sense of capability over time. When children are included in everyday tasks, they begin to see themselves as part of the family, not just someone being taken care of, but someone who also takes care.

At the same time, it’s important to remember that skills develop gradually. A child’s ability to follow through, stay focused, and complete tasks is directly connected to their age, development, and nervous system regulation. What feels “simple” to us may still be a learning process for them.

This is why age-appropriate expectations matter. When we meet children where they are, instead of expecting too much too soon, we create opportunities for success instead of frustration.

And just as important, these are suggestions, not rules. Every child is different. Their temperament, maturity, and interests will shape what they’re ready for. Some will take on responsibilities earlier, others will need more time and support, and both are completely normal.

The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is gradually building skills, confidence, and a sense of contribution over time.

✨ Save this as a guide you can come back to, and adjust based on what works best for your child.

Emotional intelligence isn’t something we can teach in one talk, one correction, or one “lesson.”

It develops through repetition, through experiences, and through how a child feels in relationship with us over time.

From a brain perspective, emotional skills like self-regulation, empathy, and impulse control are connected to the prefrontal cortex, which is still developing well into early adulthood. That part of the brain doesn’t grow through pressure or lectures, it develops through co-regulation, modeling, and consistent emotional experiences.

That means the moments that seem small, like how we respond when they’re frustrated, how we handle their big emotions, or whether we listen before correcting, are actually the moments doing the most work.

When children feel safe, seen, and understood, their nervous system stays regulated, and that’s when learning can happen. Over time, those repeated experiences become internalized, and what once needed our support becomes a skill they carry on their own.

This is how emotional intelligence is built. Not in one moment, but in the thousands of small ones. 💕💕💕

Saw this beautiful piece whiles visiting little church. They had some old books, and i couldn't resist.

We are so treasured because of Christ great sacrifical gift.

I'm reading through Hosea now, and Hosea married Gomer ( the woman who would betray him over and over again).

For this prophet Gomer represented Isreal, but really , doesn't she also represent us ?
Drawing near only when we need God, betraying Him oh so many times with our sinfulness... choosing to seek validation and love from the world instead of from the one who already gave all His love, to the point of death !

Hosea , represents God's nature: even though he is hurt and going through a wild ocean of emotions , God still instructs him to stay with Gomer. In the same way God choose to stay with us, despite our vanity and betrail. See, God knows the true intentions of our hearts, when we ourselfs cannot even comprehend them, He knows our darkest thoughts, and is not frightened by them. He keeps on choosing us.🥰
