Good Shepherd Catechism

Good Shepherd Catechism A Catholic teaching of our faith. This faith teaching process is called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. It takes place in an atrium.

The antechamber that led to the Basilica of ancient times was called an 'Atrium' - the place where catechumens were instructed. The atrium can be compared to a retreat house facilitating recollection and silence. It is a place of work which becomes a conversation with God. It is a place for religious life - not a classroom for instruction. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a simple and effect

ive Christian message presented to the children after they reach the age of three. Great truths are placed before the child in ways he can touch and feel, absorb and understand.

During the weekend of the 16th September 2017 our Faith Level 3 children attended their First Reconciliation Retreat in Melkbos. They were prepared for their First Confession that took place on Saturday, 23rd September at the Table View Parish. On the morning of the Retreat Fr Kevin welcomed the children and the parents to the Retreat. They received talks - putting on the Armour of God. What is Sin and how to find this in the Bible. We went through the Rite of Reconciliation. The struggles in preparing for Confession. We discussed the Maxim. Each child had an opportunity to read a Maxim and to discuss it. Before the parents were about to return the children were given the opportunity to recite one decade of the Rosary. When the parents returned to the hall and they all received a presentation of the True Vine and what the meaning is. We as Catechists were their to help the children on their journey and for them not be scared to go to Confession. On Saturday, 23rd September it was amazing to see all the smiles and know that the white garment they put on after confession is clean and white. We ask that you keep praying for our children and the parents as they are now preparing for their First Holy Communion that takes place next year.

In 2015 we posted the 7 sacraments for the children to learn. We are reposting this and ask the parents to go through the 7 sacraments. This will help the children know what sacraments we have in 5he church and that they know them when asked by a Catechist or by Fr Kevin.

The Catholic Church has seven sacraments (baptism, penance, confirmation, holy orders, the Eucharist (Holy Communion), matrimony, and anointing of the sick). The word “sacrament” is from the Latin sacramentum, or “solemn oath.” Sacraments are symbols that connect the visible and invisible dimensions.
